A global beauty company with an attractive offer
Present in more than 130 countries, L’Oreal is a global leader in the world of beauty trends. They’re also an innovator in science and technology, delivering unique and visionary products to the market.
More than just a beauty brand, it’s this variety that offers graduates – especially those in business and marketing – the opportunity to make their mark early within their career, and grow quickly in a leading global business.
Being hands on and given responsibility is something graduates can expect from L’Oreal Australia from day one. It’s one of the reasons that Maddie Waugh and Aydin Akyayli were attracted to the L’Oreal Australia graduate program.
Maddie graduated with a Psychology degree, and followed this with a Masters of Marketing after joining L’Oreal Australia.
“When I started my first rotation I worked directly under the General Manager of the Luxe division. I was in charge of a new brand’s launch in Australia. I was involved in every aspect right up to the launch itself.
My current role is to raise brand awareness through direct to consumer marketing. I’m managing a brand, and I have a great amount of responsibility. In every sense, I feel like I’m really contributing to the company.
The Graduate program gives you the opportunity to work across different divisions and functions, providing a unique perspective and understanding of L’Oréal Australia and the market we operate in”.
In Aydin’s case, he runs financial simulations on new products, assessing market viability. It’s a critical role.
“Given the level of investment in new lines, it’s flattering to be entrusted with this level of responsibility.”
A Finance graduate, Aydin could immediately see how his finance expertise was just as relevant to a large FMCG company.
“L’Oreal provides plenty of financial interest, with margins, marketing costs, production costs and projected sales that are all needed to justify a new product.”
What gives Aydin the confidence to run with his projects is the extensive training and support that grads receive. As well as formal coaching, L’Oreal Australia invests in building a support network around new starters.
“No matter how busy people are, they always take the time to run through things with me.” says Aydin. “I can even bring other team members to my meetings to mentor me.”
But like all new work, it’s not without it’s challenges. Because of this, L’Oreal Australia looks for graduates who will thrive in a fast-paced environment. “You need to be able to think quickly,” Maddie says. “It’s important to be able to prioritise your workload, communicate effectively and work together as one big team.”
Aydin agrees, “The work here is pretty challenging – but you can feel yourself developing. I’ve only been here a short time and I’ve picked up a lot, and I’m sure that will continue. Even when I’m tired at the end of the day, it’s a good feeling. I know I’ve done something that has had influence. L’Oreal Australia has a fun and fast paced environment that is constantly moving. It means you’re always engaged and developing a wide range of skills (very) quickly.”
With invaluable experience on offer, L’Oreal Australia is an attractive place to start your career.
