Your Gap Year role

As part of Airbase Protection and Security, you will provide vital security and support to Air Force assets, bases and personnel for ground defence exercises and operations during times of increased security. You'll undertake a range of duties including, but not limited to, manning vehicle control points and observation posts, being a member of a reaction force, and vehicle and foot patrolling.

To prepare you for these tasks you will receive comprehensive and practical training in areas such as legal powers, negotiating skills, self-defence measures weapons training, and the tactical skills used for patrolling and reacting to security threats. Most of your working time will be spent outdoors, in all weather conditions both day and night.

Throughout your gap year, you'll be supported by professional and enthusiastic Air Force personnel who will provide the guidance necessary to achieve your goals. Salary

  • Fully-paid training
  • Starting salary from $49,171 p.a equiv. plus superannuation, and from $63,015 p.a equiv. plus superannuation, following successful completion of training. Check individual job details online for more information regarding salary.

Location

Military training for Airbase Protection is held in Wagga Wagga, NSW, followed by employment training at Amberley, QLD.

Upon successful completion of training, you will be posted to an Air Force Defensive Establishment. This includes major bases such as:

  • RAAF Base Amberley or RAAF Base Townsville in QLD,
  • RAAF Base Darwin or RAAF Base Tindal in NT,
  • RAAF Base Williamtown or RAAF Base Richmond in NSW,
  • RAAF Base Edinburgh in SA and
  • RAAF Base Pearce in WA.

Entry Requirements

  • Aged between 18 and 24 as of 31 May 2019
  • Australian citizen at time of enlistment
  • Completion of Year 12 plus Year 10 passes in English and Maths

Medical and fitness guidelines also apply.
