If you’re interested in a career in commercial law, you’ll have the chance to work with market leaders to build your expertise. Our alliance with Linklaters gives you access to career opportunities across our global network and opportunities to work on multi-jurisdictional deals. Anything is possible with us – provided you’re willing to work hard and committed to achieving whatever you put your mind to.

Our clients:

Allens has some of the world's longest ongoing client relationships, stretching back more than 150 years. It's a fact of which we are immensely proud and one we never take for granted. We work with many of the world's leading organisations - including 55 of the world's top 100 companies and more than 75 of Australia's top 100 companies. Whether you're a global multinational or a suburban-based company with a bright idea, our commitment to providing excellent service remains the same: combining technical excellence with commercial insight to provide the clearest of answers.

We are committed to knowing our clients, understanding their business needs and collaborating to find solutions that meet their needs. Each client is unique, so the way we provide advice isn't 'one size fits all'. We recognise that a great solution will vary, depending on the focus of your business, the sector you work in, and the unique challenges you face.  For more information on how we are leading the market in this space click here.

DIVE IN program:

Are you curious about commercial law? Live your ambition and DIVE IN with us! Our DIVE IN programs offer students in their 1st – 3rd year the opportunity to learn about life in a commercial law firm. Visit our website for more information and register for an upcoming DIVE IN program in your state if you're interested in learning more.

Our clerkship programs are aimed at penultimate year law students, giving you the opportunity to experience first-hand life as a lawyer at Allens. They offer you an exceptional opportunity to experience our work, people and culture. The program runs over three to 10 weeks (this varies across each of our offices) and includes full-time work experience during your university break. Our clerkship programs are designed to give you the insights into the workings of a large corporate law firm and to help you make an informed decision on where you want to start your career.

During the program, you will get involved in market leading work with some of the most experienced and talented lawyers in our industry from day one. You will be given responsibility, client contact and autonomy to run with tasks with the support of your development supervisors and buddies.

If you are in Sydney you will have the opportunity to spend part of your second rotation in one of our Asian offices before you complete your clerkship program.

Our graduate program consists of two 12 month rotations and is designed to build the skills you need to be a market leading lawyer for a rapidly changing legal and business environment. In the second year of your graduate program, you may have the opportunity to spend 12 months on secondment to Linklaters London.

You’ll get exposure to clients, work and teams across a variety of areas. We do not operate in silos. Our ‘Career Deal’ offers fast track progression on merit rather than time served. Your development as a graduate will be supported by our in-house Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and a partner-led technical development program – with a strong focus on accelerated development beyond the technical focusing on commercial acumen, relationships and innovation.

Continuous learning:

At Allens, we know that learning is continuous and something that takes place every day. We strongly believe that the best development is deeply aligned to our business strategy, driven by our employees and part of day-to-day work.

We believe that being a great lawyer is much more than having great technical skills. Over the course of your career with Allens, we will support you to develop your capabilities beyond the technical with a focus on commercial acumen, relationships, innovation and leadership.

Our Cornerstone program is unique to Allens. It is a series of practical legal seminars that run over 12 months. All seminars are designed and run by our partners and senior lawyers, giving graduates unique exposure to some of the best legal minds in Australia. It is also a critical component of the firm's commitment to excellence, allowing Allens to maintain our quality and professionalism, and deliver excellent client service.

Allens has a strong commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce. We value the contribution that different backgrounds and life experience bring to our firm. Our success is built on the talent and enthusiasm of our people and the values they bring with them from their homes and their communities.

We were the first top tier law firm in Australia to launch a Reconciliation Action Plan in 2009. We were the first law firm to be a member of Pride in Diversity, Australia's first and only not-for-profit workplace program designed specifically to assist Australian employers with the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) employees, and are proud to have been recognised as a top 10 employer for LGBTI inclusion in the 2016 Australian Workplace Equality Index. Allens has been recognised by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency as one of Australia's employers of choice for gender equality. We are proud to be the first business in Australia to launch Rare's Contextual Recruitment System (CRS), a data-driven tool to further increase diversity in our workforce.
