Nooshin Tafazzoli

6.45 AM

It is time to wake up with the sound of the alarm, I take a quick shower, have my breakfast and get dressed. It’s a rainy day, so I prefer not to take my bike – I get the bus.

8.45 AM

I start my day a bit earlier today, usually, I am at the office around 9.00 am We have a flexible working practice so some of my colleagues are already here, probably the rest will be here by 10 am. I turn on my computer, read through my emails and plan the to-do list for the day. According to my schedule, the results of the USB compliance tests and PCB design changes should be prepared for today’s meeting.

The first task on my list is related to one of our project’s boards USBs’ signal quality. After a bit of researching, report’s reviews and discussion with my manager, I find out the required equipment and software to measure the signal’s bandwidth. With my research completed, it is time to do some hands-on work in our well-equipped lab in the Sydney office. I set up the required equipment and run the tests. Results are looking great through the oscilloscopes; just some soldering is needed.

It is time to have lunch, I decide to buy a sandwich from the Turkish restaurant just near our office. I grab my lunch and join the other Grads. It is my favourite part of the day chatting with my colleagues and enjoying their company.

1.00 PM

Aristocrat has a special report’s template, I open the previous reports and check the details on the template to write the signal integrity test report . After finishing a few subjects completed on the report, the necessary spreadsheet will be prepared to share the results and ask my questions at the meeting about the upcoming boards.

Now I need to grab a cup of coffee from our ‘Heart of the Vegas’ café to refresh my mind and drop by our ‘Chill Out’ room we call ‘The Backyard’ and see some of my colleagues playing table tennis.

I order some regulators for our lighting boards and test them with different regulators to assure we have the best waveform’s result in the boards.

3.00 PM

After successfully creating the purchase order, it is time to work on some recently discovered issues in our printed circuit boards (PCB) by Using Altium designer.

It is complicated, and I realise I need to discuss it with one of our senior electrical engineers who is the expert at Altium.

I highly recommend all undergrads learn Altium as it certainly helps you to ‘hit the ground running’.

In the afternoon, I prefer to do my paperwork. My mid-year review needs to be completed. My Key Performance Objective is focused on learning new skills and improving my knowledge. Later this week, I will have a conversation with my manager to discuss how I am tracking.

5.00 PM

This is usually home time for me, however, my colleague offers me some delicious biscuits to buy. It’s part of their teams Step–September Challenge to raise money for one of the many charities we support.

Yum – It’s is a good idea for a great cause!

5.10 PM

I pack up and join my friends at the gym before heading home.
