8.5
8.5 rating for Culture, based on 35 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
People are nice , work together well , there is a lack of urgency from ongoing staff
Midlevel, Melbourne
Very hierarchical. EL level staff and above often don't have any technical experience or knowledge.

* Flexible working arrangements * A bit hierarchical where a lot of information is stored at the executive level and isn't always communicated down the chain. * Most people are very supportive, friendly, and willing to share information. * There is a great sense of team work. * Not too many social events, and even if they are scheduled, not many people attend.
Midlevel, Sydney
Colleagues are friendly and supportive. Somewhat limited interaction with people in other sections.

Free to live my life after work and not forced to work long hours
Midlevel, Melbourne
There are frequent morning teas and small celebrations, staff meet after work for socialising and there is an active social club.

- Colleagues and senior staff are extremely friendly and approachable - Hierarchical structure slows down the efficiency of completing tasks - The ABS is a large organisation with many moving parts, therefore there is high reliance on cooperation and collaboration between teams and other stakeholders - COVID-19 has reduced the social aspect and availability of after-hours work activities

Very good culture as it does not feel like a strict hierarchy in my area. I am able to approach my director and work with them directly.

Very flexible hours, staff in my section are very approachable and welcoming. It's also been an inclusive environment

Most people I have met are very friendly and helpful. All of the teams I have worked in have been managed well. There seem to be a lot of teams within teams so understanding where everyone fits can sometimes be difficult.

Management is exceptionally approachable and friendly, yet retains professionalism. Not very hierarchical. Decent social events.

This company has a large and sprawling hierarchy, however, the culture is quite friendly, collaborative, open-minded, uncompetitive, and values the wellbeing of staff. There are a fair amount of opportunities to socialize or participate in work-adjacent activities.

Inclusive and friendly

Not very hierarchical within teams; only really where needed to manage workflow and privacy. More hierarchy in the senior executives but really approachable and often open to letting you shadow them/get some mentoring. Lots of people with good senses of humour but serious when need to be. Some social clubs and groups supporting minorities although has been a bit limited with covid. Other socialising team driven, but pretty common for people to e.g. pull together a sports team. Other teams generally happy to help each other out. Good flexibility with work hours. Socialising mostly when at work; amount of socialising outside hours very varied with teams.

Really friendly, inclusive and cooperative colleagues, lots of sharing of information within and across teams. Social club organises some social events for the office during the year. Not many social activities after work hours for my team.

While this may not accurately reflect the company as a whole, in my section the culture is very positive, friendly and respectful. Diversity is embraced and supported.

Everyone is really welcoming, I haven't experienced any bullying and everyone is conscious of your welfare and makes sure you dont feel over worked.

Culture is great, with a very flat hierarchical structure. Great team organisation.

- Friendly. There is a hierarchy within the team but doesn't feel that way as everyone seems approachable.
Midlevel, Sydney
Culture is great, very accepting and everyone is very polite. Teamwork is generally good inside teams, though communication between different teams can be a bit lacking sometimes. Structure is fairly standard, managers and Executives are quite communicate in my experience.
