Pay Range (Base Salary):
$79,852 plus $14, 271 Service Allowance

Job Details:
The Training Development Officer provides specialist training support to the Office of the Defence Seaworthiness Regulator. This includes the analysis, development and delivery of training and management of supporting training materials.

Requisite Education, Experience and Skills:
Bachelor degree or higher as well as relevant, demonstrable experience in one of the following disciplines:

  • Adult Learning
  • Vocational Education and Training
  • Training and Development
  • Education (Secondary)

Fixed Period of Appointment:
Candidates will be appointed into the Permanent Navy for a period of three years.

Period of Employment:
A fixed period of engagement in the RAN for three years will be offered. An opportunity to provide further service and employment may be offered subject to Navy service requirements and availability of suitable MCE quarantined positions.

Proposed Commencement Date:
October 2019 / May 2020

Military Training Requirements:
Following appointment, members will complete the RAN Mid-Career Engagement Course (MCEC) at the Royal Australian Naval College, HMAS Creswell, located in Jervis Bay Territory, 180km south of Sydney and 35 km southeast of Nowra in New South Wales. This course, conducted over a period of five weeks, is designed to give members sufficient military knowledge and skills to render effective service in the Royal Australian Navy.

Further Training:
Training Systems Officers will need to complete the Training Systems Initial Entry Training
(TS IET) course at HMAS Cerberus. Some elements of this course may be waived dependent upon the skills and experience of the successful applicant.

Citizenship Requirement:
Only Australian citizens are permitted to serve in the ADF.

Security Requirement:
The Department of Defence requires all ADF entrants to obtain a security clearance appropriate to their avenue of entry.

A process of background checks, collection of relevant information and, as required, interviews enables the Regional Security Office to make an informed assessment of an applicant's suitability for a security clearance.

Current policy requires applicants for this particular avenue of entry to have lived in Australia for the preceding 10 years, or have a checkable background for this period. Waivers may be considered.

Medical and Fitness Requirements:
To be appointed, you must be medically and physically fit for entry to your chosen ADF occupation, including fitness for sea service. This is partially assessed from the completion of an extensive questionnaire covering your medical history, followed by a physical examination.

You must also pass the swim test and physical test to graduate from your Navy training. The Physical Fitness Assessment may be assessed at Navy Age Specific.

Waivers may be considered.

Test and Assessment Requirements:
Tests and/or assessments for joining the Defence Force and for particular jobs may be a requirement during the application process.
