What is your role / position and what do you do?

I’m an Associate which means that I contribute research and analysis for client engagements, often producing presentations as the final output. I also coordinate administration of client engagements, as well as helping with business development opportunities internally.

What was your education / career path?

I spent almost six years at the University of Western Australia, graduating with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology and Economics in 2016 and a Master of Applied Finance in 2017. I joined Azure as a summer intern over the summer of 2016/17. I then finished my last semester of university and travelled for a few months before starting a full-time Associate role in October 2017.

Can you describe a typical work day?

Each day is very different – sometimes I’ll work on various projects and internal tasks throughout the day and other times I will spend my day focused on one project. Often my day will involve project management, as well as research tasks, completing valuation analysis and drafting presentations.

What do you love the most about your job? Which kind of task do you enjoy the most?

The work environment is what ultimately makes my job so enjoyable. I have experienced a few different cultures through other internships, which made me recognise the value in a workplace like Azure’s where we are offered continuous development opportunities, given responsibility from day one and challenged on a regular basis. The environment has also allowed me to form valuable relationships within the firm..

Which three pieces of advice would you give to a current university student?

  1. If possible, try out as many different roles as you can before picking one to pursue as a graduate– you never know what you like and what works best for you until you try it.
  2. An internship is a great way of doing this, so is reaching out and talking to a variety of people and exploring options that come from this.
  3. Culture of a firm is incredibly important – make sure you consider this when looking at where you might like to work.

What other firm activities are you involved in?

We have many internal committees at Azure - I’ve recently joined the marketing committee where one of the more fun tasks is planning both client and employee social events. I’m also assisting with using a new software subscription to develop a centralised knowledge database for the firm.
