Diversity and Inclusion at BOQ

BOQ is committed to a safe and inclusive workplace that values and leverages difference, creates new possibilities, and better connects them with their customers and communities. To deliver their vision for inclusion they are focused on building empathetic leadership and accountability; inclusive behaviours and practices; and an employee and customer connection where people feel cared for and valued.

Gender

BOQ recognises that diverse teams bring value to organisations and that companies with a gender balanced workforce outperform those without. With this in mind, they are focused on becoming an employer of choice for gender equality. BOQ supports all their people – regardless of gender – to reach their potential and through appropriate work-life integration, manage family and caring responsibilities, including:

  • Providing increased flexibility, where it’s possible – from flexible work hours, compressed working weeks, time-in-lieu, working from home or another work location, part-time work, job sharing, purchased or unpaid leave.
  • Generous paid parental leave for primary carers of 16 weeks, inclusive of all genders, adopters, foster carers, surrogacy, miscarriage and stillbirth.
  • Targets to address gender balance in the workforce at frontline, leadership, senior leadership, executive and board levels.
  • Focus on merit-based gender balance during recruitment and selection, talent identification and talent development.
  • A focus on gender equality further enabled through the employee-led Women Ignite Network (WIN).
  • 91% of BOQ’s people believe their immediate manager supports equality between genders.
  • 82% of BOQ’s people believe they have the flexibility they need to manage work and other commitments.
  • 59% of BOQ’s workforce are women.

Indigenous

BOQ is committed to making a difference and advancing reconciliation by building an empathetic, inclusive workplace that values and celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, and leverages cultural differences. They are focused on creating new possibilities for reconciliation by improving connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, communities and customers.

BOQ’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan and employee working group are passionately supporting the organisation to achieve true reconciliation through:

  • Community engagement, partnerships and relationships.
  • Respect for and celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history.
  • A focus on supply chain.
  • Creating opportunities and removing barriers for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at BOQ.

  • Partnering with CareerTrackers facilitates employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students at BOQ through internships and ongoing graduate employment.

Partnering with Supply Nation has enabled BOQ to provide more opportunities to connect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander endorsed suppliers across their supply chain.

LGBTI

BOQ recognises the importance of creating an inclusive environment where people feel supported to be themselves, and able to bring their whole self to work – regardless of sexuality, gender identity or intersex status.

  • Through their employee-led network EPIC, BOQ encourages LGBTIQA+ employees and allies to come together to empower rainbow people within BOQ, create a sense of community and encourage diversity within their workplace.
  • EPIC is all about Empowerment, Pride, Inclusion, and Community. This group aims to promote a supportive, safe and accepting environment for rainbow people at BOQ and are committed to respecting diversity and social equality.
