Max Fisher

Max Fisher studied a Bachelor of Business at Monash University and is now a Business Operations Analyst at CSL.

What's your job about?

CSL Behring is a biopharmaceutical company, manufacturing plasma-derived and recombinant therapeutic products and providing them to people in more than 100 countries. I work in the Commercial part of the business working as a Business Operations Analyst in our Business Analytics and Insights Team. The Key aspects of my role include being the system specialist and key point of contact for our customer relationship anagement system within Australia, providing insight into performance of strategy and execution of our commercial brands, as well as supporting development of data visualisation / Brand team & Functional team dashboards that provide insight and enable measurement and reporting of performance. I feel like the easiest way to explain my role simply is that I provided support to our sales team and any customer facing roles through our customer relationship management system and I provide analytical support to help our different brand teams to come to informed business decisions.

What's your background?

I am born and bred in Melbourne’s South East but my parents are from Germany and England, so I have been to Europe countless times growing to see my extended family. I love my sport in particular AFL, Soccer and Basketball. I finished my schooling at Haileybury College in 2014 before going to Monash University studying a bachelor of Business majoring in Economics and Marketing. After this I was able to travel to countries across Europe and South East Asia. I have always had a job since I was 15 years old working in different hospitality and retail roles and once finished University and my travelling I worked in my first professional role as a human resource admin for 9 months before I started at CSL Behring as the Commercial Operations Graduate. Through my role as a graduate, I was able to rotate through different functional areas including Analytics, Sales and Marketing before I was approached to apply for the role I am currently in as a Business Operations Analyst.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Yes. I think someone with a different background would be able to do my role. I think someone best suited to my role would be someone with a background in business, commerce, science or even IT with a keen eye for detail, good organisational skills and a real desire to learn.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

The coolest thing about my job is that I am proud of what I do. It’s pretty rare in my opinion to come out of University with a degree in business and find a role where you can really feel like you’re making a positive impact to people’s lives being a part of providing lifesaving therapies and products. It is also a great workplace culture with excellent work life balance.

What are the limitations of your job?

A limitation to my work I suppose is that there is a lot to learn no matter what background you come from. My background is in commercial studies, so that has meant learning about CSL as an organisation as well as the commercial pharmaceutical industry and getting a solid basis of scientific knowledge. It was challenging but I was really well supported.
