Please provide further information on diversity with respect to women, ethnic minorities and LGBT. Please comment on issues such as recruitment, retention, promotion, child care, maternity leave, etc.
I am Autistic and I know they seem to be well across some of the challenges I may have in the workplace. A lot of people are quite open about their identities which makes me think it is a diverse place to work.

As being an ethnic minority myself, experience I had with my company could be used as a successful example. Everyone respects each other well and occasionally share different culture.

Allowance for parental leave are generous which is inclusive of those who wish to start a family.

Maternity and paternity leave entitlements are great. I have not run into any issues being a woman in defence.

Working on it. Have active plans in place to improve in areas. Different parts of the organisation are at different maturity, but I think overall it's fairly accepting of diversity.
Graduate, Canberra
Lots of policy and programs in place to support diversity.

Diversity seems to be good, there is not equal representation but that would be impossible to achieve organically. Rention is a massive issue as most people tend to leave for employment with contractors on higher wages. I had access to parental leave which was great.

There are many initiatives for inclusivity, as well as apparel to show that you are an ally. I believe there is both maternity and parental leave available

There is strong high level effort to practice and implement these. My supervisor is excellent too. My team is fairly diverse, especially considering our work. I have informally heard good things about maternity leave options.

Department is working hard to improve recruitment and retention

What does your company do to attract applicants from less privileged backgrounds?
There are dedicated pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants. These are designed to be culturally appropriate.

There are some dedicated schemes, but also programs that don't require a tertiary qualification to enter the organisation I think are good too.
