About the position

In the first rotation the graduate will build an understanding of the frameworks which support delegated land management, and work with Committees of Management, community, local councils and Traditional Owners to protect and enhance the values of Crown land.

In the second rotation the graduate will develop an understanding of forest and fire planning, including working knowledge of relevant legislation and internal policies.ย The role will enable the graduate to participate in field work, build regional networks and an understanding of landscape scale, values-based land and fire management practices.ย  As part of this rotation the graduate will complete General Fire Fighter training.

In the third rotation the graduate will develop an understanding of public land policy, regulatory and legislative frameworks, including initiatives to enable Traditional Owner self-determination.ย  The graduate will work with the policy team implementing significant reforms to the legislation and regulations that govern Victoriaโ€™s Crown land estate.

This role is well suited to someone who enjoys using interpersonal skills and working collaboratively, critical thinking and problem solving and project planning and delivery.

The opportunity for you:

The DEECA Science Graduate Program is a two-year learning and development initiative open to recent graduates of science, natural resource management including ecology, conservation, sustainability, geoscience and geology, agriculture, urban and regional planning, computer science, engineering or related fields.

As a graduate, you'll:

  • have diverse roles across the Department.
  • work across metro and regional Victoria
  • enjoy flexible work principles, including start times (7am-7pm) and hybrid work teams (mix of on-site and remote work).
  • commence as an ongoing employee - with guaranteed job at the end of the program
  • upon successful completion of the program, be reclassified to a VPS 3 salary of $74580.
  • be supported with mentors and buddies
  • participate in extensive learning and development - program guided and self-directed!
