To move up the ranks you must win positions in externally advertised rounds. I've always felt encouraged to pursue opportunities to advance and progress in my career, both at level and as part of promotions.

Culture
My team is great. We are professional with great work ethic, but also know the importance of connecting and trusting the people we work with. We have morning catch ups everyday and occasionally go for after work drinks. When it comes to structure and hierarchy, that is across the whole Department, but my section has a flatter structure as we all work together to achieve strategic objectives.

Diversity
Health is a very progressive agency when it comes to embracing diversity and make the workplace safe and accessible for everyone. We have lots of diversity training opportunities and staff networks that do incredible work for women, ethnic minorities, the LGBTQI+ community, Indigenous staff and more. While we are a mostly female agency, there is still work to be done on ensuring more women move up to leadership positions at the SES level.

Office Work Environment
Our agency is transitioning into a New Ways of Working (NWOW) model which has involved floor upgrades to existing buildings (in progress), and in the TGA's case we are about to move to a brand new building. NWOW involves brand new facilities, hot desking, lots of extra multi-purpose meeting rooms and other changes to meet the fact that we are increasingly working in flexible ways (i.e. some days working at home, some days in the office). The dress code varies depending on your work area, but for the most part people dress business or smart casual.

Recruitment
You have to have some patience/flexibility, as the hiring process for the Health graduate program is quite lengthy with multiple stages of assessment. This included an initial review of CVs and why you wanted to work for the agency, some intellectual and personality tests, recorded video interview, a face-to-face interview panel and finally reference checks.
