Career Prospects at Dulux Group

Please tell us about promotion possibilities and fill us in on what it takes to move up the ranks.
The DuluxGroup workforce is more mature, with long tenure, usually making it difficult to move up directly, unless resignations or vertical (or diagonal) movements happen. There is scope to move vertically and sometimes diagonally, as it is a broad business, with lots of brands and functions.

Dulux is a large company with many business areas so there are always opportunities for promotion / internal movement. I completed 2 years within the Dulux Graduate Program before an internal opportunity/promotion came up which I was successful in obtaining and moved from Melbourne to Sydney for.

Like our CEO says, just put your head down and succeed in your role. People do notice and it will pay off.

It took me 3 years to be promoted.

I haven't moved anywhere yet but one of my fellow graduates managed to get a job quite early on in his graduate program with plenty of room to grow. Opening open up surprisingly often which I will take advantage of once I've acquired the requisite skills.

Endless possibilities and the support to go and try new things is great here.

To move from a grad to a leadership position within 2 years was a great achievement

In the IC the only way to move up is by a position available. Once when becomes available your basically competing against the entire office. Other ways of getting raise or promotions are non-excitant

As a graduate we are presented many opportunities to develop ourselves as leaders and move up the ranks in future years.

Promotion is entirely driven by the individual and sometimes it takes a lot for a manager to promote a chemist to senior scientist (sometimes the threat of moving to a different business or applying for a role in a different SBU)

I have been lucky to have held 4 different roles and been promoted twice in my three years of working at Dulux. I have also had the opportunity to work in our commercialization and innovation teams and believe if I wanted to make a jump out of R&D and into marketing or sales this kind of move would also have been supported. There are a lot of opportunities to move up or across in this business, you just have to take advantage of opportunities and show interest in them. It does require initiative to seek them out and drive your career development yourself, because they will not just be given to you based on time served.
