How flexible is your company when it comes to hours?
Very flexible, nothing to fault here
Graduate, Wellington
Flexibility is fairly good in my experience. If something comes up in your personal life, it is just a matter of communicating your situation and the team is very understanding. My team is a bit more flexible than others. I do find being in office is very useful in terms of collaborating on projects and asking for help when you need it. The option of working from home is excellent and a very good policy to have. Being on a graduate salary - I would encourage teams to allow WFH for a half week due to inflation costs on rent/petrol/transport/tax as the costs really do build up and it is a lot of pressure to work with this as a young person

I aim to spend one day a week in the office. The company is so flexible with a work- life balance.

The company is very flexible, I know I am contracted for 40 hours a week and the team as well as the company is understanding of various things. Things like leaving early to go to an appointment are well received and are accepted which I am grateful for. The only reason I have rated it an 8 and not a 10 is I feel there is a lot of pressure to complete these 40 hours. It seems like a really big deal. For example, if I am working on a Friday and I have completed all of the work I needed to for the week at around 1:00 pm, I have asked my boss, my Auckland team, and the wider NZ team if anyone has any work but no one does then I feel like I am waiting around not being productive. I will then check if there is any learnings, HSE tasks or business school tasks to complete and if there is nothing, then for the rest of the day I am sort of sitting around not doing anything. I personally feel that there is too much pressure on always doing 40 hours, to me 40 hours shouldn't matter as long as you are completing the necessary work required. If there was a sort of check in place that you could go through to check if you have actually completed your work and if you had you could go home would make for a better vibe in the office, people are more inclined to complete the necessary work and tasks if there is an opportunity to potentially leave a little early. I also think only allowing 30 minutes for a lunch break is not good. Everyone in professional services that I know all get an hour and 30 minutes does not feel like enough. Giving people an hour, it would mean they could go for a walk, go for a run, eat outside, and meet up with friends. I think this alongside of the 40 hours i mentioned above would drastically improve the wellbeing of employees at GHD and would create more positive outcomes for the business.

The flexibility of your hours largely depends on your team leader. Some let you balance hours so you end up with 40 at the end of a week, some don't. In terms of WFH, graduates are expected to be in the office 5 days a week, "for your developemnt". There is no development that happens in the office that could not be completed online. Typically, you end up sending a teams message anyways. Ability to WFH again largely depends on your team leader, some will let you after ~3 months but some won't. Obviously, most will let you if something comes up e.g. appointment. Graduates in Australia do NOT have these restrictions...

Very flexible. Some start at 7 and clock out at 3. I start at 9 and clock out at 5

I work in a hybrid. flexible working team so I can generally work hours how best suits me, and work from home whenever I want/need. I still stick to a standard 8.30-5 time but its nice knowing if i need to leave early I can make up hours, or if I stay later I can leave early other days.

I typically spend 40 hours in the office a week unless I am unwell or have appointments. We have flexible hours and locations which are very convenient if something pops up that means you have to wfh.

I don't feel very pressured to stay long at the office and when I have it has been reasonable.
