  • The best thing about working at HS are the people, they are so friendly and helpful. We are relatively busy, thus I am constantly being assigned new tasks that not only keep me occupied but feeds my thirst for knowledge. Also, I like that HS looks after their employees.
  • Hood Sweeney provides many many opportunities for its employees. Living and working in a regional area, I have been afforded the opportunity on a number of occasions to spend weeks working out of the Adelaide office in different areas of our Accounting & Business advisory department. These opportunities have provided me with invaluable insight and knowledge into a number of areas I would otherwise never have experienced.
  • Practical learning rather than theory learning at University.
  • Managers and staff invest time in your learning. Although I am a graduate, my manager takes me along to meetings and other things which enable me to learn new things every day and become exposed to all sorts of areas of Human Resources. If you are someone who wants to learn and progress in your career, Hood Sweeney really helps facilitate this. Although there are 100 + staff members, Hood Sweeney feels like one big family.
  • The culture at work is great as well as the amount of personalised development and mentoring I receive to help me be better at my job.
  • Being from a regional town, work can at times be quite slow to come through the doors which leads to days dragging on. It is also difficult to join in on many of the activities the firm does in Adelaide.
  • Sometimes expectations seem too high, feel pressure when I am not doing as well in some areas as they may expect from me.

Hood Sweeney has a strong commitment to the charities they support. Their initiatives for these charities are great, including sending staff to schools for their breakfast programs, and in-house fundraising. They also assist with any local or interstate causes such as the SA bushfires.

The culture at Hood Sweeney is very inclusive. There are many different levels of employees from graduates to directors however the directors are very approachable and would spend lots of time each day with their employees. The directors invest a lot of their time in the development of the staff. The culture here is a very hard working culture however if you do the right thing, you will get rewarded in many different ways. It is also a very fun working environment with many social events scheduled throughout the year.

In my role as a graduate accountant, I am responsible for the preparation of tax returns and financial statements for small and medium-sized businesses. I also occasionally take face to face client appointments for the preparation of individual tax returns. Further responsibilities include the preparation of Business Activity Statements for clients, bookkeeping, and set up of client accounting software such as Xero.

The managers at Hood Sweeney are fantastic. They are always approachable regardless of how busy they are with their own work. They are committed to making you the best employee you can be and will always assist you if you would like further training/learning experience. The feedback and recognition is top-level, the frameworks which are in place are excellent, allowing employees to be rewarded for their hard work, and feedback is provided on a regular basis.

For a graduate, I am happy with my rate of pay for the level of work that I do. I am hoping this will increase with career progression.
