People are always looking to celebrate success as well as support on those days which can be tough. Speaking with someone who is elated that you have found them a role which they are passionate about is a great feeling.

What's your job about?

Hudson is one of the leading recruitment agencies APAC wide, we are responsible for servicing clients and candidates alike. On any given day, we are out meeting and speaking with clients who are looking to uplift their own internal capabilities, as well as speaking with candidates who are looking to further progress their own careers. The basis of the job is being able to build meaningful relationships with both your clients and candidates to gain a full understanding of both needs. There is a sense of reward in consulting with candidates to help them make informed decisions on future career plans.

What's your background?

I grew up on the Northern Beaches in Sydney and like most people who do also had my primary and high schooling education in the beaches. Personally speaking making the decision to move abroad and pursue a degree in the USA, while also playing collegiate NCAA tennis was what shaped the person I am today. The responsibility of moving overseas and having to become completely self-reliant was an invaluable experience. I began my journey with Hudson in November 2019 and since then have been promoted to Senior Consultant within the business. When I left college I had a desire to not only help people with their own career journey but have a role in which my time was managed autonomously as well as a role that would maximise my earning potential from day one. Hudson not only provided the highest level of training but set me up to succeed as well as be supported and be recognised for my hard work along the way.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

I think definitely someone could. I think a misconception of recruitment is that you have to be completely extroverted. While I agree this helps, it is not essential of being a successful consultant. I believe that as long as you are confident and keen on learning you can make a real success out of a career in recruitment.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

One of the best aspects of Hudson is undoubtedly the culture within the business. People are always looking to celebrate success as well as support on those days which can be tough. Speaking with someone who is elated that you have found them a role which they are passionate about is a great feeling. Hudson also offers great incentives which motivate you every day to be your best, whether it is team dinners, trips away or as simple as a lunch with a colleague they are always looking to recognise your efforts.

What are the limitations of your job?

With every role, there is a good day and a bad day. Recruitment can be challenging in the sense that you will consistently face rejection. Whether it be a client who isn’t wanting to use your services or a candidate who isn’t wanting to take a role you have for them. Dealing with rejection and bouncing back and keeping a positive mindset is one of the keys that separate the top consultants from the rest. If you effectively do this, then you are set up to not only be successful but be rewarded financially.
