Why did you decide to join the construction industry?
My grandfather has built a successful career in construction and suggested it as a prospective career path. At the time when I started my degree at UTS I did not know much about the industry and the possibilities it could offer. Fast forward to 2019, I think it was one of the best decisions in my life.
Why did you choose to join Icon?
Icon seemed to be the perfect balance between a third-tier building company and a large orgarnisation where you are just a number. It has allowed me to be involved in the running of a project on much deeper level while having the benefit of the exposure to more complex construction methods, brilliant systems, processes and high standards.
What things have you really enjoyed doing at work?
I have really been enjoying my time on the site and contributing to the daily running of a project. The best part of it is that every day is different, which makes my role very dynamic and keeps me motivated. Working with subcontractors to meet deadlines, helping resolve issues and clashes, and ensuring that we are delivering a high-quality product for our client are all rewarding and interesting tasks
What are some of the challenges that you have faced on-site?
Being a young graduate, and not having enough experience and credibility behind your back, it takes a while to prove yourself, especially as a female. A steep learning curve can also be overwhelming in the beginning, but neither cannot be overcome.
Can you describe some of the key things that you have learned since you joined the company?
Since the beginning of my time at Icon, I have been very lucky to be exposed to various parts of the business. Going through the cadet/graduate program at Icon has been a highly valuable experience as it has pushed me to learn as much as possible, from contract administration, estimating and project planning through to safety, programming, coordination of works on site and so much more.
How would you describe the team environment?
My team is not very big and because we spend so much time together at work every day, it almost feels like a second family. Everyone has a unique personality, and a distinctive style of working, but despite that, we have a strong bond amongst each other. It gets very busy and very stressful at times, but we are always there for each other to tackle issues that come our way.

What advice would you give to new Graduates or Cadets joining the team?
Set a small achievable goals for yourself along the way and aspire to learn something new every day. Work on overcoming the fear of asking questions and you will find that there is a vast amount of support and encouragement out there.
What do you do in your spare time?
If I am not on sire, you will find me on the beach enjoying the waves and acai bowls.
