The Johnstaff story

With 200+ staff, Johnstaff is an employee-owned business that’s big enough to attract iconic projects and professionals who are leaders in their fields, but small enough to remain genuine and unpretentious. We’re one Johnstaff.

Johnstaff’s goal is simple: to help Australian and New Zealand governments and businesses achieve the best solutions for their business or infrastructure needs. Johnstaff has nine offices across Australia and New Zealand – Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Geelong, Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington, and our 200+ people collaborate with clients to help them get the best investment outcomes from major business initiatives and social infrastructure projects.

When Johnstaff was established in 1991, we were known for our expertise in the health sector. Over the past three decades, we’ve grown our reputation in the health, aged care, justice, transport, education and research, commercial and retail, and pharmaceutical sectors.

Over the past five years, Johnstaff’s delivered projects and infrastructure worth more than $25 billion. We’re talking about significant social infrastructure projects – hospitals, courts, universities, transport hubs and the like. We’ve worked on flagship projects throughout Australia and New Zealand – including Sydney’s Northern Beaches Hospital, Melbourne’s Children’s Court, Christchurch Hospital Outpatients, Monash University New Horizons Research Centre, education precincts, integrated transport hubs and medicinal marijuana research and manufacturing facilities.

Take your next career step with the Johnstaff team.

Our culture

We’re professional, genuine and unpretentious. We think outside the square to find solutions that work. We don’t pull precedent off the shelf and call it a job done.

We’re looking for passionate, talented and collaborative individuals who won’t be afraid to tell us if they think there is a better way to meet our clients’ goals.

Our program

The Graduate Program is open to Building & Construction, Project Management and Engineering students and runs for 12 months – with two six-month rotations in Project Management and Construction. This means that our graduates gain hands-on, client-side experience on a wide variety of projects and initiatives at all stages of their planning, construction and operation. Graduates work in office-based Project and/or Construction roles, or site-based Construction roles.

The program is designed so that graduates get real exposure to the client-side across multiple industries – including the health, education/research, aged care, justice, transport, commercial, retail and pharmaceutical sectors.

The program includes structured learning outcomes focused on:

  • the holistic overview and approach to the project management cycle
  • consultant engagement process
  • contract administration and procurement
  • expanding on-site construction knowledge and experience
  • site processes and knowledge
  • OHS/WHS legislation
  • understanding of the cost management relationship, and
  • professional writing.

In support of the program, all graduates will have a dedicated buddy, and work within a team-oriented culture and supportive environment.

Importantly, we offer our graduates permanent positions from day one.
