The Johnstaff story

At Johnstaff, we are committed to attracting, developing, exciting and retaining exceptional people. With 250+ staff, we're an employee-owned business that's big enough to attract iconic projects and professionals who are leaders in their fields, but small enough to remain genuine and unpretentious. We're one Johnstaff.

Our goal is simple: to help Australian and New Zealand businesses and government agencies achieve the best solutions for their business or infrastructure investment needs.

Johnstaff is a diverse management and delivery practice. We act as advisors, project managers and cost managers for both public and private sector clients. Our approach is focused on providing commercially viable, value-enhancing solutions to our clients’ business, project and investment needs. We have a strong appreciation that our clients’ investment solutions are not always asset solutions, but are often integrated business opportunity initiatives.

In the past five years, we have delivered projects and infrastructure worth more than $57 billion. We’re talking about significant projects – hospitals, roads, universities, transport hubs, schools and prisons. We’ve worked on iconic projects throughout Australia and New Zealand – like Melbourne’s Federation Square, Sydney’s Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct, Monash University’s New Horizons Research Centre, Chatswood Education Precinct, the National Disability Insurance Agency headquarters in Geelong, Sydney’s West Connex, Hopkins Correctional Centre at Ararat, AstraZeneca Respules12-15 in Sydney, Melbourne’s Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre, Port of Brisbane- Electrolux, Queensland Health Big Build Projects and Brisbane Airport Corporation.

Our culture

We’re professional, genuine and unpretentious. We think outside the square to find solutions that work. We don’t pull precedent off the shelf and call it a job done.

We’re looking for passionate, talented and collaborative individuals who won’t be afraid to tell us if they think there is a better way to meet our clients’ goals.

Our Graduate Program

Johnstaff’s Project Management Graduate program is open to Building & Construction, Project Management, Civil Engineering & Architecture students and runs for 12 months in an office-based role. This means that our graduates gain hands-on, client-side experience on a wide variety of projects and initiatives.

The program is designed so that graduates get real exposure to the client-side across multiple industries – including the health, education/research, aged care, justice, transport, commercial, retail and pharmaceutical sectors.

The program includes structured learning outcomes focused on:

  • Project administration including the facilitation, reporting and analysis of projects.
  • Cost management and the processes involved in controlling project costs.
  • Project procurement, including consultant engagement.
  • Project programming and status reporting.

In support of the program, all graduates will have a dedicated buddy, and work within a team-oriented culture and supportive environment. Importantly, we offer our graduates permanent positions from day one.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • Caring company who cares more about it's people than profit.
  • Johnstaff works within a niche market, offering the opportunity to work on a wide range of unique projects.
  • The best thing is that Johnstaff would push you to reach your career milestones and push you to do better.
  • Daily challenges of on-site work.
  • Can require long hours to meet deadlines.
  • The job comes with a lot of responsibility and is quite dynamic, meaning there is always a lot to keep on top of. At times, it can be difficult to switch off at the end of the day from the many moving parts of the project.
  • The worst thing probably is that work comes and goes in waves. You might be very busy one week and then fairly free the other.
  • Travel requirements for projects if you are site based.

The great things about being a project manager is how you can see a project from the concept design to the final design, and how much it changes based on client feedback.
