Culture at King & Wood Mallesons
- Average rating for Culture, based on 85 reviews8.7 / 10
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
I think the culture at KWM is great. The people are the main reason I chose to join the firm, they are inviting and generally interested in how you are and your learning too. I have found that if you aren't busy there is no expectation that you hang around until late, so long as you have asked the remainder of the team whether they need help. I think the structure and hierarchy really depends on what team you are working in. The teams in the firm I have worked in have been very social which makes coming into work a lot more pleasant.
Very social - lots of team bonding, firm events, drinks, etc. The experience really varies between teams so it's hard to comment on the firm as a whole generally the firm's culture is a supportive and friendly one.
Partners and Senior Associates are both friendly and approachable. Strong culture within team - regular team lunches, drinks, coffees etc.
Very friendly and no bullying.
Great culture with lots of social activities, sport and positive teams.
Culture in most teams is fantastic - very supportive and people celebrate after working hard on projects and deals.
The culture is down-to-earth and professional whilst striving for technical excellence in easy to access, commercial advice.
Everyone is very friendly.
In the office the culture is generally pretty good, although there seem to be some issues trying to get partners to invest their time and be interested in a person's careers, It is not a hierarchical place to work, there is generally great teamwork and cooperation, there are social activities available across the firm including sporting events etc.
Open plan, social events with colleagues, everyone is supportive.
Very good team/collaborative atmosphere.
Great culture at all hours of the day - everyone is friendly at work.
The culture in the office is fun, vibrant, and energetic. It is the same after hours - really fun people. Although there is a hierarchy in terms of seniority, senior employees (partners/ SAs) are very approachable. The team I'm in works really well together and looks out for each other.
Fun, young, vibrant, everyone gets along, friendly, approachable both in and after hours. Flat hierarchy. Focused on teamwork. Very social amongst colleagues.
The partners with whom I have dealt have been very kind and fair people, and overall I don't think that there is a rigid hierarchy in place. Overall the people (at all levels and in all departments, legal and non-legal) are nice.

Most people are very friendly, approachable and willing to teach and mentor juniors. Working hours could be long when there is lots of work, but when things are quieter people are free to leave at 5pm sharp. There are social events often, and most of them are really fun!
Not everyone is social but for those that are there are a number of enjoyable social events.
My colleagues are very friendly and inviting. I have no trouble approaching them if and when I have questions. Everyone is being very helpful in helping me settle in. When I have stayed after hours, my colleagues have offered assistance and made sure my wellbeing was maintained. I have the opportunity to meet and work with many team members because of the structure of our team.
KWM is (for the most part) quite a social and convivial place to work. The people are generally friendly and approachable. One of KWM's objectives is to make KWM a 'great place to work' so there are lots of social clubs/sport clubs/book clubs and other activities going on which allows staff to be as involved as they wish.
Excellent inclusive and encouraging culture.
Very welcoming and social. During office hours they work hard, however are very relaxed and personable. It does not feel hierarchical, but more team-like.
Very approachable and interested in your development.
Everyone interacts well - both in the work environment and in social contexts. The hierarchy only exists in the work environment but this is becoming less apparent.
There are many social activities and extracurricular activities that allow you to get to know other staff
The firm has excellent communication channels and a commitment to improvement, resulting in effective teams. People are friendly and professional.
Teams have different dynamics. Some teams have a strong vertical hierarchy and culture of face-time while other teams work more horizontal and agile.
Like most workplaces, the culture varies significantly from team to team. For my part, I have loved the culture of the teams I have been a part of.
