What's your job about?
I’m a Construction Estimator. I price and submit retail development tenders and quote fit-outs.
I receive the client tender pack and am given two to three weeks to price a project. I combine Quantity Surveying with developing subcontractor pricing and budget development.
What's your background?
I grew up in the Northern Beaches of Sydney. The best years of my life were spent at high school and university. I love to learn and enjoy the camaraderie of being with my friends. I grew up around construction and my brother works in the industry so it was a natural path for me to follow. I knew that I didn’t want to be on the tools, so construction management was the best fit for me.
I commenced the Mainbrace Graduate Program in 2011 and completed all the rotations. I moved into the estimating department 3 months ago after working as a project supervisor on retail / commercial fit-outs.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
My job is all about people. You have to be able to get on well with others (colleagues, subcontractors etc). It’s about gathering project information, analysing it and pricing it appropriately. You must have a good work ethic and attitude so that others want to work with you.
What's the coolest thing about your job?
The very best thing about my job is winning a tender and providing work for multiple people within The Company. Ranging from a few $100K to multi-millions.
What are the limitations of your job?
The hours are long and often the workload is large. You just push to always get the next task complete.
