Your role

The First Nations Scholarship and Internship is an opportunity designed to recognise talent and diversity within the Australian and New Zealand offices.

What you'll do

You will work in a client team and play an active role in all aspects of the client engagement. In this role, your responsibilities will include gathering and analysing information and developing and communicating recommendations. Over an 8-week internship period (which can be split into 2 x 4-week blocks), you will gain new skills and build on the strengths you bring to the firm and will receive ongoing coaching and mentoring from colleagues on your team.

You will work with your McKinsey colleagues and with the client team, owning a distinct piece of the project. Some examples of the specific work may include interviewing clients, leading client teams, building financial models, creating and delivering presentations, and working with McKinsey subject experts to develop perspectives and insights for the client.

Training & development

When you join McKinsey as an intern, you are joining a firm that will challenge you and invest heavily in your professional development. You will have the opportunity to work on teams and help the best organisations in the world - across the private, public and social sectors - solve some of their most difficult problems.

Coaching and mentorship will be an integral part of your development at McKinsey. You will receive ongoing support, peers will give you feedback and will help you grow and plan the next several years of your career and you will be supported at every stage of the application and interview process. They will assign an interview buddy and you will be invited to their interview case coaching workshop. You will also have the chance to connect with past internship and scholarship winners.

Benefits

In this internship, you will have the opportunity to receive a $20,000 scholarship.

In addition to competitive pay, employees are provided a comprehensive, top-tier benefits package that reflects their commitment to the wellness of their colleagues and their families. These benefits include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for colleagues, spouses/domestic partners, and children
  • Prescription drug coverage
  • Mental health support and resources
  • Retirement contributions and savings opportunities
  • Tax-advantaged savings opportunities, including flexible health spending accounts
  • Parental leave
  • Family farming planning and adoption, fertility, and surrogacy assistance
  • Paid time off, including vacation, holidays, sick leave, and bereavement
  • Tuition reimbursement for advanced degrees and continued education
  • Discounts and perks for gyms, retail, pet care, entertainment, travel, leisure, and personal well-being
  • Transportation benefits

Career progression

They believe in developing First Nations leaders who are passionate about creating impact. To support your personal and professional growth they are offering a number of paid consulting internship opportunities in one of their offices, as well as a pathway for a full-time role.

At McKinsey, individuals are encouraged to bring their potential and ideas to the table, supported by unparalleled learning resources and a nurturing community. Career progression is driven by one's skills and impact rather than predefined timelines, empowering individuals to shape their own journey and tackle energizing challenges alongside talented colleagues, ultimately contributing to the firm's collective success.

Work-life balance

They offer a robust work-life balance program, including flexible working arrangements, paid time off for various purposes such as vacation, sick leave, and bereavement, and additional paid leave for volunteering and supporting charitable causes. Employees also have the option to work part-time or reduced hours through flexible programs, including hybrid models, ensuring they can effectively manage their professional responsibilities while attending to personal commitments and interests.

Company culture

McKinsey & Company's distinctiveness lies in its rich blend of cultures, experiences, beliefs, and backgrounds, anchored by its people. Upon joining, individuals become part of a nurturing meritocracy, surrounded by kind, humble, and intelligent colleagues who foster support and growth. Emphasizing diversity and inclusion as integral to their ethos, the company's networks cultivate a welcoming environment, promoting mentorship and community to foster belonging and advancement.
