Every month, millions of people across the world are downloading MongoDB to transform industries and build amazing apps that are used every day. We believe that making data easy to work with allows our users the opportunity to free their genius and create something world-changing. The database market is massive (IDC estimates it to be $121B+ by 2025!) and MongoDB is at the head of its disruption. Join our team to help us ‘Think Big, Go Far’ this summer!

We’re seeking curious minds like yours to collaborate with full-time engineers, learning standard development methodologies and gaining practical software engineering experience. Interns are fully integrated software engineers who spend the summer pushing production-level code to make lasting contributions to our products.

Our opportunities in Sydney are on our Storage Engines Team, Charts Team, Labs Team, and Application Migration Team.

The Storage Engines team works in C/C++ and manages how MongoDB stores data, both in-memory and on-disk. The Charts team uses Javascript to maintain and update MongoDB’s modern data visualization tool that is integrated with the MongoDB cloud data platform.

The Labs team is MongoDB's research department, working across various technologies and tasked with identifying and exploring products and technologies. The Application Migration team is an upcoming greenfield first-party MongoDB product that will help customers migrate workloads from relational databases to MongoDB - the team works in Typescript, React, Java, Spring Boot, and more.

What we’re looking for in you

  • Be in the process of receiving a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields
  • Have a solid foundation in computer science theory, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design
  • Be proficient in C, C++  Javascript, Typescript, Java, Python programming, a comparable high-level language, or have the desire and willingness to learn
  • Graduating in December 2023 or January/February 2024
  • Be genuinely interested in MongoDB the company and be excited to use MongoDB in a project, if you haven’t already

What you'll find at MongoDB

  • Hands-on mentorship from MongoDB employees who are passionate about developing your skills and helping you grow
  • Membership within our Affinity Groups where you can gain mentorship and learning opportunities from employees with a shared background or common identity
  • Impactful projects where you can Make it Matter - your meaningful work will see the light of day
  • Insight from groundbreakers in tech, including our executives and department leaders through networking events
  • A fun community of fellow interns to spend the summer with and attend social events, hangouts, and games nights
  • A chance to see if MongoDB is where you see yourself long-term with the possibility of receiving a full-time offer at the end of the summer!

This program is open to students with Australian or New Zealand citizenship or Australian Permanent Residency expecting to graduate in the next 12-24 months. MongoDB internships are full-time (40 hours/week) for 10 consecutive weeks lasting from dates in December to early February.

The code that the storage engines team manages has cutting-edge algorithms. We have a few select people who read research papers to make sure that we are always the most efficient. I found that so cool!
