Summary
I recently graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Economics (Honours).
Before joining NSW Treasury as a graduate, I spent two months working as an intern at the Department of Treasury and Finance, Victoria in the Revenue Forecasting team. I had also worked as an academic tutor at UNSW Business School and the University of Queensland.
What I love about the Treasury graduate program is the opportunity to rotate through three different groups of the organisation which helps graduates develop capabilities in different areas. It is also a great way to get to build relationships across the business. I worked in the Agency Budget & Policy Group in my first rotation and I am currently in the Fiscal & Economic Group in the Economic Forecasting and Revenue Analysis Division.
Treasury is definitely the place to be if you are interested in public policy issues, and would like to use your skills to contribute to the people of NSW and the wider community.
What's your background?
I grew up in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam before moving to Australia to study Economics at the University of Queensland, Brisbane. I moved to Sydney last year after obtaining the scholarship to study Honours in Economics at UNSW. It turned out to be one of the best decisions in my life to receive the offer to work at one of the most prestigious government agencies in Australia later that year.
What's the coolest thing about your job?
Working in a Central agency such as Treasury gives me a broad range of knowledge in different public policy areas such as transport, health, education, justice, planning, the environment, to name a few.
The people I work with are very friendly, supportive, open to discussing issues and sharing ideas.
The graduate cohort is also very close to each other and we have collaborated on many occasions to co-ordinate Treasury’s annual events, which not only developed our skills in project management but also enhanced our communication and negotiation skills to deliver outcomes.
