  • Work on the low latency, globally distributed trading systems at the core of our success – no prior finance knowledge required!
  • $200K first year package (2022 start), plus an abundance of perks and benefits
  • Relocation assistance if based outside of NSW, including flights and accommodation
  • Start dates available for mid-2021 and Feb 2022

What you'll work on

To win in the markets, we need robust, clean and performant software. Great engineering comes through in its simplicity. Our globally distributed trading systems are continually competing and we care about solving complex problems with simple solutions. Engineers at Optiver take ownership for the full stack in tackling the problem (not by being told the requirements). You'll also:

  • Take ownership of a project that will have tangible business value
  • Build high-performance software, including sophisticated trading algorithms, low latency connectivity software, modern user interfaces and everything in between
  • Utilise large volumes of data to analyse and optimise our systems for performance and effectiveness, directly improving our trading success
  • Partner with our Trading, Risk and Research teams in fast feedback, quick-release environment

What you'll learn

We're proud of our rigorous, high-quality tech bootcamp. Don't know anything about finance? No problem. Unfamiliar with C++? We've got you. Our dedicated Head of IT Education built a program to equip you with the knowledge and skills to set you up for success. Rotating across two development teams will help us find the right spot for you. You'll build relationships across the business by working with our Trading, Risk and Research teams, and more personally at the likes of Friday night drinks and board game nights.

Who you are

At heart, you're a problem solver. You don't stop until you've figured out a solution and then found a way to improve it even further. You're also:

  • Keen to create high-performance, low latency designs that critically impact trading success
  • Curious to learn and comfortable discussing/exploring complex technical ideas
  • Deeply passionate about technology, particularly software development, and have your own out-of-classroom projects or extra-curricular activities to prove it
  • Keen to work alongside the best Developers and Traders in the industry, with the humility to continually challenge yourself to improve and grow
  • Knowledgeable about object orientated design and development concepts (experience with C++, C# or Java is required for our technical assessment)

Eligibility

  • A final year/Honours/Masters/PhD student or a recent graduate (up to 4 years)
  • Studying a Computer Science, Computer/Software/Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering or similarly technical degree
  • An Australian or New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or able to secure full working rights after graduating
