Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
Training isn't too bad. I don't really have time in my current role for it but I still get it
Graduate, Brisbane
Formal and informal training is available, helps with soft skills and technical professions.
Graduate, Perth
Most learning is done on the job, but I have also participated in online computer based courses as well as instructor lead courses that were both in person/online. I have learnt some soft skills about working effectively and some technical concepts relevant to my discipline

Terrible approach to on the job learning/training, with a throw in the deep end and sink or swim approach taken. This has forced me to "just get the job done" despite sometimes having very little idea what I'm doing or why I am doing it. A lack of formal mentoring means most work related questions are answered simply and briefly by time-poor people, with zero emphasis on learning/development. I have enjoyed and am grateful for the formal training courses I have been given the opportunity of attending, and have benefited from these immensely.
Graduate, Perth
Very minimal formal training and development offered to graduates. I need to seek out opportunities and often it is difficult to gain approval to attend.

I have been very happy with the training I have been offered by Santos, most of which was recommended by my leader and colleagues. I was fortunate to travel to Adelaide to complete a week-long course run externally. I have enjoyed completing the LEAP courses as well. How late Petroskills came out was a bit disappointing, but I have been enjoying that nonetheless. I have picked up lots of new technical skills, skills using different software, data analysis, decision making, economics modelling and presentation skills.

The training programs offered for endorsed topics are of commendable quality. Nevertheless, my efforts to access specific training crucial for my job have proven to be quite challenging.
Graduate, Brisbane
We get a lot of opportunities to attend training. This has more recently been accelerated especially for the graduates.

Our company uses Petroskills to assign formal learning of hard skills, and Percipio for formal learning of soft skills. You are also assigned a technical mentor in your discipline.
Graduate, Adelaide
I have many opportunities to develop my skills with lots of personal and technical training courses. I struggle to find the time o complete these due to workload though
Graduate, Brisbane
As stated before, a lot of the learning/training for graduates is informal and on-the-job training, with a formal training course thrown in here and there. I think Santos would benefit from a much more structured approach to training, as is done in other companies.

Trainings company provide are generally good and helpful. The way that petroAcademy training organised is poor.
Graduate, Perth
Was assigned a mentor when I started who constantly helps me with technical work and shows me how to complete tasks. New Petroskills formal training system is helpful and provides good resources
Graduate, Adelaide
I have undertaken the Leading Self courses: - Presenting with Impact - The 7 Habits of Effective People As well as a couple technical courses: - Python 101 for Subsurface Engineering - Introduction to the Digital Oilfield
Graduate, Adelaide
software - spotfire training general fundamentals training through petroskills - not given enough time to complete with our role relevant courses when they come up
Graduate, Brisbane
Whilst working at Santos, I've learnt strict time management, speed and accuracy, developed leadership skills and most importantly got to learn about safety on a higher level.
Graduate, Iagifu Ridge, Southern Highlands Province
Trainings are mostly field experience and learning from others. There are yet to be proper trainings regarding specific field development.

Some formal training has been good but PetroSkills in recent months has felt like it has been forced to meet a company training scorecard. It is hard enough to constantly pick up and work on several different tasks, then being forced to assess and reassess my skills and abilities while targeting PetroSkills leaves me with no time to actually engage with the content. I'd rather learn at my own pace when I am actually going to apply something as opposed to 'cramming' content to meet a scorecard metric.
Graduate, Perth
I have learned a significant amount of technical Engineering informally, but very little on the formal training. Petroskill has been rolled out, but I prefer to be doing training in person during dedicated time, instead of doing online training whilst working without instructors I can ask questions.
Graduate, Perth
Formal development training targeted at high importance competency areas.
