South Eastern Community Connect (SECC) Graduate Programs & Internships

  • Health

South Eastern Community Connect (SECC) is known for its compassionate approach to the local community. It provides services to people of all ages in south-east Sydney through three dynamic community centres in Eastlakes, Mascot, and Darling Point.

SECC has supported the community since 1979, initially focused on providing transport and social support for seniors. Under the leadership of CEO Kate Melhopt, SECC has grown to provide whole-of-life services, including children's and youth programs focused on mental health and wellbeing.

SECC is different to many organisations because when you call you speak to real people with a passion for what they do. It is not cold and corporate, but warm, friendly and personable. Staff are mostly locals with an understanding of south-east Sydney and its diverse needs.

Our new staff often comment that SECC is not just about 'the bottom line' but caring for people genuinely and authentically within the community. It's a true grassroots organisation, and offers its employees meaningful work and a strong sense of purpose.

Staff are well supported by the CEO and management and are regularly given training and personal development opportunities. It truly is a safe place to work, with a healthy team, above-average wages, and compassionate management.

Recruitment Process

As an applicant, SECC requires a CV (resume) and cover letter from all applications.

They prefer to meet you in person, but failing that, a Zoom interview will suffice initially.

Following the interview, they will shortlist applicants and require the names and numbers of two relevant professional referees.

Successful applicants will:

  • Have a demonstrated ability to work unsupervised as well as an effective team player with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Relate well to a range of people with sound listening and problem-solving skills.
  • Be reliable and punctual.
  • Display emotional maturity and resilience.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant certificate or diploma in the field in which they are applying
  • First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain
  • Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety
  • Current driver's licence and willingness to travel
  • Knowledge of EEO, WH&S and Anti-Discrimination.

Employment at South Eastern Community Connect is conditional to a Criminal Records Check under the legislation.

Remuneration & Career Growth

Renumeration is above-average.

Our aged care workers, for example, are offered a competitive casual rate of $34.93 per hour, under the Level 2.1 SCHCADS Award 2010.

There are also opportunities for regular training, staff development, and promotion with each service dependent on performance.
