Culture at Telstra

8.5
8.5 rating for Culture, based on 20 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Although there is still a vertical structure where at times reporting up the chain is required. The general feel of the office is a lot more horizontal, where teams work together as one to deliver.

The grad cohort is quite social, we go out almost every Friday for after work drinks. the structure of the organisation is a bit complex so takes some time to understand it (chapters, missions, functions). most teams are very collaborative and accommodating of new grads. heaps of learning opportunities

The culture of the company from my experience hasn't been as good as I had expected or what was portrayed. Even though the team is willing to help, they do not follow through after a while. This negatively impacted me as being a grad I needed that extra support.

The culture seems to be very dependent on where you are within the business. I am lucky that the teams I have been a part of and my immediate network have been incredibly supportive, fun, helpful, and kind, but I have found working with other people in other departments difficult at some times. Generally my team has worked well together and made me feel very comfortable.

Teamwork and collaboration are highly encouraged, however I feel that one element Telstra lacks in, both internally and externally, is communication.

Very flexible and accommodating regarding work hours and location. Workplace culture is very social and supportive.

Formal informal. Everyone is kind, casual, and cares about the work. You feel like you can come to work as your whole self. Collaboration varies by teams. There's space for fun in team meetings. Leaders are approachable and easy to talk to. The organisation generally feels quite flat in structure. Lots of autonomy and trust. Massive focus on work/life balance and flexibility. However, most people work from home so there definitely is a lack of face-to-face socialisation.

Telstra boasts an exceptional company culture that places a strong emphasis on inclusivity and diversity, setting it apart from many other organizations. The teams I've been a part of within Telstra have fostered a fantastic sense of teamwork, marked by cooperation, mutual support, and recognition. However, for those who work outside the eastern states, socializing can be a challenge. They unfortunately miss out on the various company events, big and small, held in the eastern states, and the lack of face-to-face interactions with colleagues presents its own set of difficulties for everyone. It would be highly beneficial if the company could consider funding a few trips for employees to attend these events. This initiative would provide those working interstate with valuable opportunities to socialize and connect with their colleagues from across the organization.

The company culture is really laid back and great to be a part of. The structure is set so everyone knows who to go to for what, who their management is and who is responsible for which specific aspects. The socialisation aspect is also cool, whether is coffee Catchups, virtual or in person, after hours happy hour drinks or just finding time to get into the office at our own choice with our colleagues, it creates a really good culture and environment to be a part of

In the office: great desk set up, lots of places to socialise and interact. Many places for team discussions and brainstorming. Lots of free events being held in the office to encourage people to come in. After hours: after work drinks and events are sometimes held. Hierarchy is good, I know all my superiors and feel comfortable talking to them or approaching them.

The people at Telstra are on the whole, fantastic. People care and are interested in helping you out. The agile structure of the business, while frustrating at times, promotes cross-skilling and career progression. Most people work from home full-time, so socialising can be difficult and the office culture is often limited in the same regard. Nevertheless, I have made friends with the people I work with, particularly fellow Graduates

Great socializing, cooperation and teamwork however sitting in a location with smaller offices, lesser employees and away from team hubs due to remote working I would say has impacted my experience as a Graduate compared to Graduates from Metropolitan areas.
