Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
Lots of opportunities to attend training (both compulsory and elective) online and in person.

The University has a growing professional development program that is becoming more useful with each addition. As a graduate, you are given some great opportunities to undertake formal development, however, you really have to actively participate in order to get value out of them. You will never learn anything by being passive and simply listening.

I do not feel that the training program promised through the graduate applications is what we actually receive. There is little to no training through the program it's more hit the ground running.

Training is pretty good at the Uni. Most are either technical skills on the University's systems or soft skills, such as personal development programmes. Although I learnt how to use most of the systems through "on the job learning", I did have formal training on how to use StudentOne (Student Record System), Matrix CMS (website editing), and HPE Content Manager (HR Employee Record System). I have also done programmes on Resilience Building/Positive Psychology, Indigenous Cultural Awareness, and Managing Mental Health in the Workplace. The Uni also has a lot of online modules through TrainME which you can do at your leisure (although they are mostly common sense), which includes your induction training on things like OH&S and behaving appropriately in the workplace.

Soft skills training - e.g. developing resilience, strengths building etc. Hard skills training - e.g. StudentOne software, PageUp, Nexus

Training programs are unclear, as is the training policy. Most of the training I've completed is because I've been proactive and searched for it myself. I then proposition this to the manager who approves it, but I am rarely offered training opportunities I didn't find myself.

There are some great formal and informal opportunities if you seek them out.
