The Story of Toyota Australia

Toyota Motor Corporation Australia Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan’s largest vehicle manufacturer. Since its inception in 1963, it has cemented its position as Australia’s top-selling car brand.  Headquartered in Port Melbourne, Victoria, it has four regional offices in Australia, except Western Australia where an independent company distributes Toyota-branded vehicles on their behalf.

The organisation is structured under five operating arms:

  • National Sales, Marketing, and Franchise Operations: responsible for all national sales, logistics activities, marketing and advertising, creating dealer network, local franchise development activities
  • Guest, Aftersales, and Corporate Operations: responsible for customer support, dealer support, warehouse operations, long-term planning of the business, human resources, learning and development services, finance and purchasing activities, compliance, coordination and execution of product and services
  • Information and Digital Services Operations: responsible for providing strategic IT leadership, innovative workstyle services, reliable enterprise solutions, and coordinating digital transformation activities.
  • New Business Solutions & Product Planning Operations: responsible for product planning and development, growing new and innovative initiatives.
  • National Lexus Operations: responsible for all sales, aftersales, marketing, and strategy for Lexus band

Toyota’s manufacturing operations in Australia were closed in 2017, and today the vehicles they sell are imported from Toyota affiliates overseas. Their customers are serviced by their extensive network of 224 dealers under franchise agreements.

Culture & vibe

To provide an outstanding customer experience,  they are continuously innovating to develop vehicles that meet the needs of the market both now and in the future. Their research focuses on vehicles that are powered by alternative fuels and vehicles with the potential for automated driving. Meanwhile, they continue to work towards vehicles that maintain the standards of durability and reliability that people expect from the Toyota brand.

The foundation of their corporate culture is The Toyota Way, a unique way of working that they apply in their day-to-day work, at every level of the company, worldwide. It is built on two pillars: continuous improvement and respect for people.

Continuous improvement encourages everyone to identify where and how even small changes can be made to benefit the business, their team, or their individual performance. And through respect, they build mutual trust and understanding with those around them. Every member of a team is given the opportunity to do their best, and the accountability to achieve results.
