What’s your job about?
Transdev is committed to providing quality public transport services to the community, whilst also ensuring uncompromising safety. Within my role at Transdev, my daily duties consist of a variety of tasks and duties – ranging from the optimisation of networks, to assisting other departments in projects. A typical week for me consists of travelling to various locations to work, progressing on the most demanding (time-conscious) projects. In my role, I am required to often think outside the box to provide innovative and intuitive ideas to bring forward into the organisation.
Additionally, the role provides the opportunity to meet a lot of new faces – both inside and outside the organisation. Many of the people you will meet within the role will have very intriguing and interesting insights and stories to share, which adds to the experience as part of the Network Planner position. It is definitely an interesting role, which can provide a positive outlook for the community who utilises our services.
What’s your background?
I have always lived in the Brisbane area, where I went to a Catholic primary and high school. Throughout my schooling, I always had an interest in mathematics and business, which assisted in determining the path I wanted to take for my university studies. In 2014, I undertook a Bachelor of Business majoring in Management, where I learnt a lot of useful and insightful skills in relation to the framework and understanding of the various departments of an established organisation. In late 2016, after working within the retail and finance industries, I decided to go back to university to refine my skillset, specialising in the field of Business Process Management. After one year of studying this course, I was fortunate enough to be selected for the Graduate Network Planner role, where I had the opportunity to utilise the skills and applications learnt at university into the transportation industry.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
As someone who has completed a very specialised course (currently only available in two universities in the world), I can say with certainty that an individual with a different background can become a successful Network Planner. Someone with a background that requires themselves to have an analytical mindset and can think outside the box can become a successful Network Planner, so long as they can easily adapt to software applications specific to the role.
What’s the coolest thing about your job?
The most beneficial part of the role consists of the small things – listening and chatting to the others within the business, having a flexible work schedule around university and personal commitments, and being part of a collaborative working environment.
What are the limitations of your job?
Although I personally find the need to travel to a number of various locations as part of my job role exciting, it may be a limitation to others. Additionally, you need to be prepared to bare a lot of responsibility – there is oftentimes a backlog of items to complete both quickly and correctly, which may be an overwhelming experience for some.
