I'm on a contract. I don't feel like I've done enough to get re hired. The PDP system is pretty stupid, make some SMART goals, which according to my manager no one ever does as priorities change at the drop of a hat so they end up doing all this other stuff not in their PDP. Then it gets signed off as they have still achieved a heap of things in doing their job.

There's ample opportunity for secondment, so gathering a wide range of experience in your normal role, but also beyond it, is not only achievable but encouraged. The employment team at DTP is committed to making sure that we're satisfied in our grad roles and helping us find a suitable position within the organisation as we finish the grad program.

There's no concept of promotion in government but there are plenty of roles that are advertised at higher grades that managers are supportive of applying to. There is a set structure of the skills and expectations for each grade, which makes it easy to work towards and develop if wanting career progression. When wanting progression, a goal is set with your manager and they help you develop these skills.

I believe there is a clear path for progress as the VPS has guidelines for what candidates must achieve to move up to the next level. There are also opportunities to move into temporary roles to pick up more skills.

As a VPS grad I'm confident that my prospects for future job promotions are great. I have an assured ongoing position at the end of the program.

The Vic Gov Grad Program seems to be viewed quite favourably for future career opportunities. I have received support to begin exploring more senior roles following completion of the grad program. There are also many opportunities for secondments and acting to gain further experience after finishing the program.

There are several positions or secondments are available to VPS employees internally from time to time.
