Mellanie, generalist stream, disability pathway

My proudest achievement is having the opportunity to raise the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags for the NAIDOC celebrations outside Treasury Place. It felt so empowering and really made me feel connected with other VPS employees who identify with me.

Mellanie is a proud Gadigal woman. After leaving her small country town she came to Melbourne and completed her Bachelor of Arts with majors in English, Sociology and History. After this she applied to the graduate program through the disability pathway.

“I wanted work with purpose. I saw the program as an opportunity to contribute with my knowledge in humanities.”

Mellanie’s rotations gave her the opportunity to work on an Aboriginal Leadership program and network with other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues across the Victorian Public Service (VPS).
