Each year, we invite penultimate year university students with a suitable academic focus to apply for a 10 week Summer clerkship program in the firm's Sydney office. Following successful completion, students may be offered a graduate position to begin in the year immediately after graduation.

Greenwoods is affiliated with Herbert Smith Freehills, one of the world's leading law firms and our summer clerkship programs are run simultaneously. As a result, you will have the opportunity to meet and build meaningful relationships with a large cohort of clerks, as well as all members of our firm. The program is designed to build on your soft skills as well as your technical skills. You will also be involved in a number of social and networking activities.

We are particularly interested in students studying Law and/or Commerce (accounting preferred) or who show an interest in practising as a tax adviser. Our tax advisers are a mix of lawyers and accountants, and many are both!

As a Greenwoods vacation clerk, you will have the opportunity to work on a broad range of tax advisory and tax compliance matters across our industry groups: Real Estate, Financial Services, Energy & Resources, Corporate & M&A, Projects & Infrastructure, Private Wealth and Transfer Pricing.

Tax advisory is the consideration and provision of tax advice in relation to all matters including corporate structuring, mergers and acquisitions, infrastructure, property development, financing and international transactions.

Tax compliance is the reporting obligations that arise from complying with the tax law. This includes the end-to-end preparation and review of tax reports, including income tax returns, business activity statements and other lodgement obligations.

You will be engaged in client work and be mentored by your reporting Director and a buddy.

I was always amazed when I was able to use my knowledge from university to draft a memo which later went out to the client either in its original form or with only minor edits.
