How to get hired, tips from WiseTech Global
Put in the groundwork
An application doesn’t just start with an email. We are looking for people to join our team who love what they do and are curious about the industry. Attending graduate fairs, networking events, conferences, and public presentations is a great way to meet people working in the industry and make valuable connections. Introduce yourself to become more than just a face in the crowd.
Similarly, get active on Stack Overflow, GitHub, and LinkedIn. Make sure your profile is up to date and be sure to expand your network through these platforms. Not only do we use these platforms to recruit, but they are also a great way to stay in touch professionally with the people you meet.
Make a good first impression
We get a lot of CVs here at WiseTech, usually more than 500 each month. So if you don't make a good first impression, you may not get a second look.
Put your best foot forward with a clear, concise, and well-designed resume. Focus on the areas that make you stand out and tell us what you're most proud of, spelled out in plain English and in an easy-to-read format.
Be passionate, be creative
Your personality and passions should come through in everything you do. At WiseTech, we value people who think differently and so having a unique approach with your application is a great way to impress us. Think the coder who made a LucasArts adventure-style game about landing his dream role at a game development company, or the prospective brewer who printed his CV on the label of a beer bottle filled with his own home brew.
Regardless of how you apply, give plenty of attention and thought to your cover letter. This is the perfect opportunity to express why you want to work with us and what skills and interests you bring to the table. Let us know anything you think might be relevant; we're always looking for people with complimentary skill sets who can grow into their roles.
Don't let the connection end with an email. Get in touch during the application or interview process to ask any questions you have or to get the latest status. Connect with us on LinkedIn or other social media platforms. Say hi at the next event. We recognise commitment and passion when we see it.
Get to know us
Most of all, get to know WiseTech and we'll get to know you. We are proud of our dynamic, collaborative, and creative culture and are looking for people who want to help us change the world, one innovation at a time. We live and breathe our values so make sure you check out http://www.wisetechglobal.com/about-us to see if our credo and mission statement speak to you. And even if you're not ready for a full-time graduate role yet, get in touch. We're always open to speaking to passionate people from a range of disciplines and may have an opportunity that suits you.
