Tips for Graduate Software Engineer Applicants

VivCourt Trading

We asked four Software Developers from VivCourt if they could provide one key piece of advice to Graduate Software Engineering applicants. Here's what they said:

David Coates - Software Developer

"I think providing a robust, well tested solution for the coding challenge, and also not being afraid of not knowing the answers in the technical interview, and to collaborate with the interviewers rather than trying to feign knowledge"

Kevin Vlahos - Software Developer

"One piece of advice would be to understand the inner workings of a language well rather than just basic Data Structures and Algorithms"

Andy Wang - Graduate Software Developer

"For the in person interviews, it felt more like it was me working with the interviewer to try and answer the questions. I found a lot of the questions pretty hard and I had to ask the interviewers to explain a lot of details and slowly come up with an answer. The assignment was more practical rather than leetCode type questions. It was like trying to build a product that fit requirements"

George Bai - Software Developer

"Ensure you are aware of useful classes and functions of your main programming languages, never code something that is already implemented for you. Think out loud and explain your answers, never be afraid to ask for clarifications on questions. Finally, think about why you are interested in Vivcourt and what interests you about trading!"
