The Opportunity

We are looking for a graduate from within the Health Sciences or Engineering/Risk study field who has a keen interest in occupational health and safety and maintaining and managing a safe and healthy workplace.

This role will be included in our graduate program which is designed to provide you with the opportunities to develop your skills foundation and gain exposure in real world environments that prepares you for career success. This opportunity is located in Northern Queensland (Weipa and Gladstone) working in our Aluminium product group.

What the role entails

This role is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to assist in driving the development of a strong health and safety culture. You will be working across a wide range of operational and strategic HSE issues.

Reporting to the HSE Business Partner, you can expect to gain operational experience over the two year graduate programme, with a structured and planned development strategy to ensure that you get exposure to all the tasks expected of a HSE Professional within Rio Tinto. You'll be instrumental in implementing and sustaining our Rio Tinto and Aluminium Safety Strategy, building on our safety culture through Fatality Prevention, Process Safety, Injury Prevention and Contractor Management programmes.

What you will need for this role

To be successful in this role, you must be;

  • Pursuing a Bachelors or equivalent within Health Sciences being Occupational Health and Safety, Health and Safety, Health Safety and Environment – studies to be completed by end 2017
  • Having demonstrated exposure to site environments within a related heavy industry
  • Possessing excellent communication skills with an ability to write engaging content and convey key messages clearly and concise
  • Able to undertake a fly in/fly out or residential role, with various site locations possible

Consideration will also be made if you hold;

  • A Bachelors or equivalent within Engineering, combined with practical HSE experience of no more than 2 years
