Do you enjoy using technology and code to solve problems with tangible outcomes?
Does working for one of the world's leading Quantitative Trading firms excite you?
Are you looking for a fast-paced but down to earth environment, where the people are what make us successful?
If so, we are looking for passionate and talented Software Developers to join our 2020 Graduate Program commencing next January.

The Role

Our Software Developers underpin the foundations that allow our traders to do their work, by integrating sophisticated coding techniques with innovative engineering ideas. You'll design and optimize systems that can process massive amounts of data while ensuring high performance and stability.

SIG provides you with the opportunity to sharpen your technical skills, learn about the trading industry, and understand the fundamentals of risk-based decision making. With guidance and mentoring from your team, you'll get hands-on experience beginning on your first day.

What you'll do

  • Develop systems used directly by our trading desks
  • Develop high-performance low-level C++ or C# code for handling large amounts of critical data and making key contributions to trading decisions
  • Work in an Agile environment and quickly see your efforts making a difference

How you'll learn

Our graduate Software Developers hit the ground running – we believe the best way to learn is by doing. You will spend your first 6 months learning from our senior developers, rotating through 2 or 3 of our various tech teams and have a customised learning and development plan.
You will get introduced to our environment and the specific technologies you will use at SIG. You will get exposure to different areas of the firm. Here are a few of the learning opportunities you will have during your first year:

  • Technologies: We offer a variety of mentoring and training to get you up to speed on any technologies that will be needed for success in your role.
  • Rotations: SIG has a very collaborative technical environment. In some roles, you will participate in customized learning opportunities with technical teams outside of your own. These learning opportunities will expose you to technologies and teams that will share valuable, important information with you. You may quickly shadow or spend extended periods of time with technical teams throughout our organization, in order to enhance your understanding of our business and your role at SIG.
  • SIG Knowledge: No matter what team you are on at SIG, getting a "big picture" perspective of technology at SIG is important. Senior technologists provide overviews of their technical teams, the products they have created in house, and how the teams interact and work together to impact the business. You'll also gain exposure to various trading desks in order to learn more about our industry.

About you - we are looking for people who:

  • Are passionate about technology, with a thirst for learning
  • Have or are working towards a Bachelor or Master's in either Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or related field of study
  • Distinction average (WAM 74- 85) or above
  • Graduating in 2019 or have graduated in the last 12 months.
  • Strong software development skills in an object-oriented language (C++, C# and Java)
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify a problem, evaluate it, and suggest solutions
  • Ability to collaborate with a team while having the confidence to work independently
  • Flexible and driven with a commitment to innovation
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A passion for new and creative solutions utilizing different technologies, platforms and languages.

SIG Perks:

  • Relaxed dress code: jeans and sneakers are the norm, shorts all summer long
  • Breakfast and Lunch provided daily with a fully stocked kitchen, where you can help yourself to food, beverages, and snacks
  • State of the art office with sweeping views of Sydney Harbour
  • Onsite gym with cardio equipment, strength machines and power rack
  • Social events including a poker tournament, dinners, and sporting events

Who we are:

Founded in 1987, SIG has grown from an options trading firm in the United States to one of the world's largest privately held financial institutions. Today, with offices around the world, we trade almost every major financial product. We are recognised for our disciplined and quantitative trading approach and our leading-edge trading systems. Our Asia Pacific headquarters was established here in Sydney in 1998, and we now have over 130 employees working in Trading, Technology, Quantitative Research and Operations.

If you ask employees why they like SIG, they'll almost always say the same thing: the people. We like spending time with each other both in and out of the office. We have fun improving our decision-making skills and analytical thinking by playing poker, we like to go out in the city, and we enjoy heading out to the cricket, fun runs and festivities throughout the year. Each July and December we also get together for a well-deserved formal celebration.

Our advice to software developers joining us is to be curious and collaborative and be personally accountable for your work and outcomes. Persevere and speak up, and don't be afraid to bring fresh, innovative ideas to the table – you are, after all, the future of SIG!

We don't post salary ranges externally so any salary estimate you see listed on a third party website was not provided by SIG and may not be accurate.

SIG is not accepting unsolicited resumes from search firms. All resumes submitted by search firms to any employee at SIG via-email, the Internet or directly without a valid written search agreement will be deemed the sole property of SIG, and no fee will be paid in the event the candidate is hired by SIG.
