About TasNetworks

TasNetworks came into being on July 1, 2014, following the merger of Aurora Energy’s distribution network (i.e. poles and wires) and Transend Networks (i.e. big towers and lines). The state-owned corporation is responsible for supplying power to a quarter of a million Tasmanian homes and businesses. TasNetworks also owns and operates telecommunication infrastructure to “enable safe and efficient operation of the electricity system”.

Your role

They have several positions on offer, as a Graduate Engineer, you will undertake data capture and analysis as required to determine the best technical solutions to achieve business objectives. Increase knowledge and develop skills specific to the electrical engineering industry. You will be involved in working within various workgroups on multiple projects throughout the business. As a graduate, you will get the amazing opportunity to move around the business on a regular basis to ensure you gain exposure and diverse experience. This is a 2-year fixed-term opportunity.

Your Responsibilities: 

  • Develop technical expertise across the TasNetworks’ distribution and transmission network
  • Gain an understanding of the organisation, its policies, processes, standards and culture.
  • Developing an understanding of the electrical network industry and contemporary issues (ie. National Electricity Market and regulated environment).
  • Rotating through different areas of the business on a regular basis as a part of the program without having a ‘substantive position’.
  • Working on a variety of often unrelated projects and ensuring goals are achieved within agreed timeframes.

The two-year program provides unparalleled business exposure, as you rotate through different areas of the business and continually challenge yourself. They will help you grow your skills through engaging and challenging projects and ongoing mentorship.  As part of the Graduate Program, TasNetworks Graduates engage with the community through the delivery of the STEAM Program. STEAM aims to encourage interest in the STEM disciplines and create opportunities and pathways for young Tasmanians. The program also provides graduates with the opportunity to engage with the local community, while further developing their leadership and communication skills. Read more.

About you

Requirements:

  • You will need to have a tertiary qualification in engineering
  • Have a current driver's license
  • The ability to self-motivate and manage your own performance as well as being able to build effective partnerships across the business to ensure the best solutions and results are achieved
