Māori & Pasifika at Aurecon NZ

Aurecon deeply respects and acknowledges Maori and Pasifiak communities in Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Our commitment is to create sustainable and meaningful relationships with, and Māori and Pasifika in New Zealand and we demonstrate our commitment in the following ways:

Indigenous inclusion in New Zealand

In New Zealand we drive progress through our partnerships with Iwi. Aurecon has a strong commitment to building relationships with Māori and acknowledging the role the local Iwi play in each area.

To demonstrate this commitment Aurecon has established individual Memorandums of Understanding with Ngai Tahu in the South Island, Waikato-Tainui in the Central North Island and Ngāti Whātua in Auckland. Aurecon has co-designed initiatives with various Iwi to improve work and life outcomes for Māori. These range from revenue-generating projects to initiatives focused on corporate social responsibility and placements for young Māori in our New Zealand offices, as a pathway to work and career development in the engineering sector.

In August 2019, Aurecon became a TupuToa Support level partner. TupuToa is an innovative internship programme creating pathways for Māori and Pasifika students into careers in the corporate and professional sectors.

Through this partnership, Aurecon also honours its promise in the Ngāti Whātua Memorandum of Understanding of growing Māori and Pasifika business leaders, whilst looking to contribute locally to Aurecon's Australia and New Zealand strategy for diversity and inclusion. The aim is to grow and support the interns so they can bring their whole selves to work, adding value to our work simply through the unique cultural lenses that they bring.

Aurecon New Zealand's inclusion strategy has a specific focus on developing Māori cultural awareness. We have a role to play in preserving Tikanga Māori and Te Reo (Māori language) and our strategy acknowledge this.

In both Australia and New Zealand, we promote diversity and inclusion of Indigenous peoples through cultural awareness, cadetships, scholarships, career pathway events, cultural activities, event celebrations and business engagement.

Ehara taku toa I te toa takitahi, ēngari he toa takitini.

Success is not the work of one, but that of many.
