During the program I spent time with the Health Workforce Division drafting Commonwealth policy, the Office of Health Protection coordinating the national COVID-19 response, and the National Sports Tribunal delivering independent, transparent and cost-effective sport dispute resolution services across Australia.
The Grad Program for me was a fantastic opportunity to learn, grow and challenge myself in a supportive environment. I learnt quickly that most people in the Department are willing to help you out, whether it is assisting to coordinate input or simply how to get from Sirius North to Sirius South. I learnt that sometimes you might have to adapt your working style to suit others and that a little bit of extra research will help you understand all the big acronyms everyone keeps throwing around at your team meeting.
My advice to the 2021 cohort is to take constructive feedback in your stride and work with your buddy and mentors to turn that feedback into experience. Oh and also, try the special breakfast wrap from Mavi – you won’t regret it.
