What's your job about?

My day consists a little of everything from sales, to customer service, to managing the day to day operations of the store and other staff members.

My typical day starts with going through emails from suppliers, my proprietor, warehouse and customer inquiries. I prioritise my tasks and focus on any urgent issues that need solving. The day moves very fast and every day is different. The most rewarding part is interacting with customers and finding solutions to meet their needs. Each department has different energy with lots to offer and to teach.

What's your background?

I grew up in Melbourne. I worked in retail and hospitality during high school and uni. I studied psychology and wanted to combine what I learned with my retail experience.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Everyone from any degree can apply for this graduate program. All you need is to think fast on your feet and be open to learning all the different departments have to offer. You will need to take on many hats and be ready to spend the day on your feet.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

Each department has a different energy, but the best thing is the team you will be working with. Everyone has a lot to teach and wants to see you succeed. Furthermore, you will get the chance to meet many REPs from different suppliers and brands to give you a more in-depth insight into products and trends. If you get a rotation in Electrical, you get all the free coffees you could want.

What are the limitations of your job?

If you prefer to do one role only five days a week, this is not the role for you. There will be days where you are running all day doing sales or going up and down on the cranes in the warehouse learning operations. If your goal is your develop your business skills you will need to be prepared to take on multiple roles at once with many competing priorities.
