Thomas Uwins

Now I have my presentation in one of the project rooms... The presentation went well, and my team also gave feedback on key areas I did well and improvements for next time. Overall, it was a good experience.

6.00 AM

My alarm goes off and I wake up and get ready for work, never forgetting to eat breakfast! If I am working from home, I would wake up a bit later.

7.40 AM

I catch the train and begin the commute to the city. I often read or listen to a podcast while the stations fly by! This usually takes 40 minutes, but it gives me time to focus for the day and get a seat on the train!

8.20 AM

Arrive at Flinders Street Station and walk along Queen St to the office building, trying to get all the green lights. I often walk with a big crowd as we all travel the pavement to reach our destinations.

8.35 AM

I get to the office, where I go up the elevator to my floor and pick a workstation close to my team members or a standing desk. I place my computer, drink bottle and notebook on the desk and prepare for the day ahead. This includes reading emails for meetings, accepting meeting invitations and planning my tasks throughout the day.

9.00 AM

Start and end of each week, my Team Leader has the team have check-in meetings to increase group bonding, letting everyone know what tasks we are doing this week and other questions or needs we might have. Today isn’t one of those days, however this morning I have a few tasks to complete. Today and this morning I will prepare for a presentation, working on a few small tasks and an individual research project my manager has set for me. I usually focus during this time by removing distractions and notifications. At 9.00 am, I have a meetup with a colleague to receive feedback for my practice presentation.

11.00 AM

Now is a gathering of everyone in the Marketing team, a session where one of the teams presents a project they are currently working on. This happens every few weeks to build team bonding and celebrate any achievements of people within the Marketing team.

12.00 PM

It's now lunch and I often make it the night before to bring it in. I usually make two sandwiches to fuel my day or grab lunch from a local shop.  I often sit with other graduates or members of the marketing team. We often chat about our mornings, what we did on the weekends or anything noteworthy. After having lunch and a break, I head back to my desk to begin work again with a fresh mind.

1.00 PM

After working on a few projects and tasks, I have my first meeting of the day with some of my team members. For this meeting, I am shadowing the project and learning about its processes. I also meet colleagues I don’t normally interact with due to my role. I go to a few of these meetings every week to understand the types of projects my team does.

2.00 PM

Now I have a catch-up with my Team Leader to see how I am progressing with my development in the graduate program. This was a time when I had the chance to ask questions and If I needed any support during the program. I also received feedback on my current projects and guidance on what I need to do next to improve my work. These sessions usually occur every week to keep up with my growth in the role and just to check in on how I am going overall.

2.45 PM

Now I have my presentation in one of the project rooms. This was my first presentation in front of my team, where I had to summarise a report and convey key insights I found. The presentation went well, and my team also gave feedback on key areas I did well and improvements for next time. Overall, it was a good experience.

3.30 PM

Normally for the last hour or so I review my day and complete any remaining tasks I wanted to complete before the end of the day. I also set goals and new tasks for the next day and week ahead.  Below is a photo of me talking with a colleague after my presentation.

5.00 PM

At the end of the workday, I pack up my things while making sure I have done all my little tasks. I leave work to catch the train, giving goodbyes to my fellow colleagues who are left in the office. On Fridays, I might join after work drinks with other graduates. Below is an image of the office while I was leaving.

5.15 PM

I walk up William St and get to Flagstaff station to head back home after a big day at work.

6.30 PM

I get home and finish off some emails and readings to prepare for the next day! Also, I make sure I relax to refresh and have some time to enjoy some of my passions!
