Not sure yet but sounds promising
Graduate, Melbourne
I'm still new at Telstra (in their grad program) but it seems that if you work hard you can relatively easily be promoted.

As a part of the graduate program, we were promised that there will be opportunities to rotate and have different experiences, our team leaders were not willing to let us go and have that. It took a lot of talk and effort from my end to work that out for myself. So, some help and support from the leaders would have been appreciated.

There are a very wide range of positions and roles at Telstra, and people leaders do make it clear what can be done to get better performance reviews to lead to better career outcomes

Telstra uses employee bands, and most people will stay in Band 3 for most of their career. There are sub-bands within this that allows for minor growth.

Not too sure actually

I have not been promoted but have gotten into teams I have wanted to

Feels difficult to progress in such a large organisation, also a slow burner. There needs to be a team that can explain and break down options for new starters or education hungry workers.

There are a heap of cross-skilling opportunities and Telstra looks to promote people with multiple experiences under their belt. Moving up the ranks requires you to know who to know a little bit but also to have a diverse skillset. Often people with a wide variety of experiences will go up the chain faster than those with a deep knowledge of one topic, even if the job relates to that topic. Luckily, Telstra's remuneration system accounts for this and allows technical experts to be paid accordingly.
