Gender Equality at Attorney-General's Department (AGD)

The AGD Women's Network was established in 1995 and is a collective of department employees, from which the Women's Network Committee is drawn, to advance the interests of women in the department.

The committee pursues the interests of departmental women through fostering participation in the network, and representing their interests to the department. This is achieved through:

  • advocating for internal policy issues affecting women (e.g. fostering awareness of and action on gender issues, sexual harassment, flexible work arrangements, supporting partner leave, a departmental nursing parents policy, pay equity and recognition of diversity in the department)
  • facilitating and encouraging networking and mentoring of women
  • recognising individual or collective efforts of departmental staff in advocating for the interests of women
  • showcasing those aspects of the department's work that seek to improve conditions for women in Australia and overseas (e.g. family and domestic violence laws and programs in Australia, and work to prevent people trafficking) and
  • raising awareness and funds for causes that promote the interests of women locally, nationally or internationally (e.g. holding awareness raising and fundraising events on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and International Women's Day).
