Why did you decide to apply for the graduate program?
I applied for a number of grad programs, but after reading through the AP Annual Report, I felt Australia Post stood out from the rest as an organisation. Throughout the recruitment process, I experienced a tangible sense of the workplace culture here at Post. At my Assessment Centre I formed such a great connection with one of the AP managers who assessed me that I went on to film her wedding day the following year, despite never actually working together! I felt a strong fit with the organisation, and it excited me to be involved with a ubiquitous Australian community service.
What business units have you worked in / are you currently working in and where have you completed your rotations?
People & Culture. First rotation in our Engagement & Diversity team (a Centre of Excellence). Second rotation in our myHR Advisory team in Employee Relations (a HR Generalist role). I’m about to commence my third rotation in our People Infrastructure team, working on Future of Work programs that look to improving our HR technology in the organisation to support all the work we do, and get ahead of the transformation curve.
What projects have you been a part of that you really enjoyed working on?
Say2action, our employee engagement survey, was my first major body of work, which was a fantastic deep-dive into learning about the unique dynamics of Australia Post as a business. I’ve also loved working on gender inclusivity programs, such as Women@Post, which looks to improve the representation and workplace experience of women in our operational networks. In myHR, it’s been a challenge but incredibly rewarding privilege to support our managers across the business through unprecedented events such as the bushfires and COVID-19.
What do you like about working at Australia Post?
I like supporting a truly unique organisation that provides an essential service to every member of the Australian community. I like learning from the challenges of steering a historically monopolistic business towards commercial acumen, and bringing our people on that journey with us. I like that, in my experience, our people leaders truly care about putting our wellbeing first so that we’re always able to perform our best work. Support and flexibility is always there when you need it.
What skills have you developed through the graduate program?
So many skills. During the last 10 months of my myHR Advisory (HR Generalist) rotation, I built more HR acumen than I had accumulated in my previous 4 years working in other HR roles. Throughout my time at Post, I have developed skills in stakeholder engagement, change management, storytelling and presentation, resilience, productivity, customer service, and personal empowerment.
