What's your role in the department?
I am currently working as a Program Officer in the Curriculum and Literacy Team. I oversee the implementation of one of the action items from the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan and help administer several projects and grants in my team's portfolio.
Most recently this has involved briefing the Minister on our implementation approach, making payments, participating in contract negotiations, and evaluating project proposals from potential suppliers.
What's been the highlight of your experience in the Graduate Program?
In my time at Education, I have received excellent mentorship from the department from both my direct supervisor and others within Executive leadership. There is a great culture of support for graduates throughout the department which provided me confidence in implementing new ideas and asking questions both directly and indirectly related to my work.
What tips do you have for future grads considering the Education program?
I would encourage future Graduates to ask questions and take time to understand the role their work plays in the broader Australian Public Service and apply this knowledge throughout their career in the APS.
