Cultural & Linguistic Diversity at Department of Industry, Science and Resources

The department recognises, celebrates and employs initiatives that harness the unique skills, attributes and backgrounds of all individuals.

The mission of the department’s Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (CALD) Network is to:

  • promote cultural diversity and awareness 
  • support employees with CALD background
  • create a diverse, safe and inclusive workplace.

The Network’s values are:

  • being intentional about and accountable for the advancement of cultural equity, diversity and inclusion in the department
  • celebrating cultural events, and promoting cultural diversity in senior leadership
  • challenging cultural stereotypes
  • identifying and addressing unconscious racial bias in the workplace.

As well as employees of CALD background, the Network welcomes members who would like to learn more about different cultures and to contribute to the department’s inclusiveness and diversity.

In the 2022 APS Census, 23.3% of departmental staff identified as having been born outside Australia and 18.7% identified they spoke a language other than English at home.
