As a Queer person, there's a lot being attempted. Definitely helped by the existence of the Pride Network at the department.

DISR has extreme diversity reflected in its workforce and inclusive culture, which is likely why results are so fantastic.

Its better than most places, there is a genuine effort here to be better, I have met some people who are openly living as their authentic selves. But there are still deficits, one that comes to mind is the lack of transition medical leave for my gender diverse colleagues.

I feel like there is a good balance between men and woman in the workplace and particularly leadership/management roles. I wouldn't say I am in the position to comment on the rest but overall, I think the culture supports a diverse workforce.

DISR's diversity initiatives are run off the back of the tireless efforts of volunteers who are in the Inclusion Networks. They are rarely recognised for their work, almost never given adequate time for the extra roles they take on, and constantly fight uphill battles with the inclusion team to have things run by people who are paid for that work. DISR takes advantage of marginalised communities.

As a whole there are more women than men in the APS which has been a slow shift. plenty of different leave types available. DISR has its own groups for diversity and gender you can join.

DISR is a Government department that has major focuses on building diversity. As a female with a CALD background, I've not felt like a minority.
