Lauren O’Connell

I work with our Leaders & Partners to ensure our teams have the capability to sell & deliver our partners technologies.

What's your job about?

DXC Technology is the world's leading independent, end-to-end IT services and solutions company and I work in our Strategic Alliances team, who work to maintain & manage the relationships we have with our network of 250+ partners.

My key responsibility is Partner Network Training & Certifications. I work with our Leaders & Partners to ensure our teams have the capability to sell & deliver our partners technologies.

But the nature of being a graduate is that I’m pulled into many different projects to assist. Outside of my day to day responsibilities, I’ve been fortunate to work on a multitude of projects including sales engagements, event management, women in leadership initiatives, sitting on our regional leadership council, project managing a global steering committee, working with our digital transformation team, attending industry events and organising our Partner of the Year awards.

What's your background?

I grew up in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and for my first degree I studied a Bachelor of Arts. After that, I had no idea what I wanted to do next so I decided to spend the next year on a belated gap year in London.

After that, I came back and completed a Master of Business and then I applied for my role at DXC.

I’ve now been working at DXC Technology for 2 years. I began with a rotation with our solutioning team, before rotating into my current role which I’ve now been in for nearly 18 months.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Yes, absolutely! The great thing about my team is that we all come from diverse backgrounds which means we all bring different strengths to the table. The most important thing is that you’re willing to be a team player, try new things and learn from your mistakes!

What's the coolest thing about your job?

The variety! The unique and great thing about my team is that I get to work across every facet of our business and with a wide and diverse range of partners.

What are the limitations of your job?

Working for a global company means that your co-workers can come from a variety of locations & time-zones and this can often mean late night or early morning calls.

But the good thing is that our leadership understand this and DXC are good at allowing for flexible working hours.

3 pieces of advice for yourself when you were a student...

  1. Network - Joining a new company fresh out of university means a very steep learning curve and the best resource you’ll have is your colleagues!
  2. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes - Put your own ideas forward, try new things, own your mistakes, learn from your failures & keep moving forward!
  3. Say yes! – You never know where an opportunity can present itself. I’ve had projects where I felt completely out of my depth and those are the projects where I learnt the most or it opened new doors.
