What's your job about?
My employer is responsible for turning the property conveyancing community into multiple digital platforms and my current responsibilities include business processes and finding opportunities within business units to improve.
My current everyday tasks include speaking to other business units and determining their current processes. We then discuss any improvements that could be made in the processes alongside the implementation of new systems.
In past rotations, I have been a part of new systems implementation and did a lot of configuration in the back end to cater for all the requirements given to me by the recruitment team. I helped create a process to validate the Internal Job Opportunities email before it was sent out to our employees. I also created a feedback application through SharePoint to help my team get feedback in real time from our customer facing teams while they were out on the road.
What's your background?
I grew up in Woodend, Victoria and went to Woodend Primary School. After finishing primary school, I attended Gisborne Secondary College. I completed my VCE in 2014 with an ATAR score of 55.85 and my subjects included Psychology, Studio Arts, Literature, General Maths and Classical Studies. Once completing my studies, I then went to Deakin University to study a Bachelor of Criminology/ Bachelor of I.T Security (Information Technology). As I was coming to the end of my degree, I started applying for graduate programs.
I graduated from my course at the beginning of 2020 and started my graduate program in February with PEXA and now, I have been here for a whole year! I've learnt skills in multiple parts of the business and can use them wherever I go.
I was 100% sure on where I wanted to go with my degree but since joining PEXA, I have found other avenues that interest me and that I enjoy, which has made me rethink what areas I would like to be a part of and what direction I want to take my career.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
Yes, because all the skills I have gained, I have learnt during my time in this graduate program. As I am still learning new skills to help me decide my career direction, I feel that someone who was in the same position would be able to do this a job and help them decide for themselves. I am a very hands-on learner as well which this company is extremely supportive of!
What's the coolest thing about your job?
The coolest part of my job has been being a part of a new system implementation for applicant tracking. I was able to provide insight with the system configurations for different audiences whilst working with the system implementation officer to solve any issues that would arise. I discovered my love for learning new systems and configurations, which is another stream my career could go. This program has really helped in allowing me to try many different things to find the skills that I enjoy and can utilise anywhere.
What are the limitations of your job?
One of the main limitations I found in my role was not having a lot of knowledge about the sector we work in, as well as dealing with a culture shift. It was quite difficult at the start as I had just come out of university and didn’t know much. The first few weeks were mainly spent on learning the different platforms we use, the processes and the audiences, which took a while to take in.
